Great idea man! I've been trying to come up with a way to do exactly the same thing...but just one problem...are'nt you a little concerned about fire? I know that the tape is probably fire resistant since it is meant to go near the break lights, but you have it directly on the bulb?

Why don't you try and get a Red bulb? Or is it one of those thin tube type bulbs? Something like a Christmas light bulb, or goto a Party Store and look for a Red bulb. I see them all the time.

You could also look for some Red colored plexiglass. I used to have some in my USMC flashlight. Its a small piece, but I'm sure they sell in in larger sizes.

Just some ideas.
