Merc Shield Misfire

Post by Falker »

I’ve noticed that ever since the Merc. Shield has been install that I will Get A Misfire every now and then when going to shoot at another Mech. Like I’ll get ready , Line up the Mech in my sights and pull the trigger and it will freeze up on me for a second. Then when it jumps back to the game the Mech I was shooting at has moved several Mech lengths away and I’m still holding a full chamber of ammo. Then I’ll have to reposition and try again for another shot. But by that time The other Mechs ammo has recycled and is taking his shot at Me. Now I’m screwed.

I’ve talk to another pilot about this who is having the Exact Same Problem. A coincidence ? I doubt it. Anyone else experiencing this also ?

not had a chance to play with merchshield running yet (only got my PC up and running again 2nite...YAY!!). Having said that, from what i've read of merc shield, i'm unsure as to how it would cause such a problem. I remember reading on the nbt:mercs forum about a similar issue, i.e. lag caused by merc shield in-game. However, one of the mek tek guys said that the main principle behind merc shield is that it checks your mech selection, config, and for hacks/cheats etc in the game lobby, and not the game itself, precisely to avoid any lag problems in the game (admittedly it'd just move all the lag to the lobby, but i reckon that's bearable, if it eradiates bugs etc). Nevertheless, it could well be that there's an unanticipated side effect that ur experiencing...u compared hardware etc with this other guy? sorry i can't b more help, but i just remembered the post by the guy from mek tek.

Hey, that's a very good description of what used to happen to me all the dang time - before mercshield was ever invented! I called it a 'freeze'. I've had 'em last for over four minutes (on the Concourse map). But I recently upgraded my RAM from 128 MB to 640 MB and the freezes have all but stopped. I've only had a couple in the past day or two, and they only lasted for a few seconds.

you know this could be caused by mercshield and still effect the in game and this is how, if for some reason it takes a burst of CPU usage or something while someone is in the lobby are picking mechs out and looking threw their list. couldnt it be possible any CPU usage or Ram usage effect the game for that split second? now i have had the fire and kapoot problem before as well and in my case it was before mercshield too. however i did seem to notice that after mercshield was installed on the fort i had a serious hard time playing on it for the longest time. i still have a hard time connected to the fort and the TS server hosted by SD, but i realy think it simply some problem between how my puter connects to his system or the route or something. we have both checked it at times useing trace programs and what not and dosnt seem overly bad at any point. but ive seen it on other servers as well, there are just some servers out there that my mercs just dont play well, the fort seems to be one of em sometimes. i guess its one of those cosmic coin toss things. dunno. the odd thing is i just replaced my old motherboard and added some ram, but it calls up to what i had before so the ram shouldnt be a factor, for now most my lag problems are over and even though i got to lag shoot alot of the time ( thank god for mw2 days) at least i can play :)

Actually , I’ve seen the freeze again with the ram upgrade I got. But with much less time laps. It’s more like a split second instead of a full second. This was only tested with one night of play , but I have a feeling that I’m better off with the new stick of Ram I installed. TD said the same. Now if only I could play with them players from across the world. I still think I have a problem playing with them folks over there in Eurasia sending packets back and forth. It’s only then , (that I have Gathered) is when I’ll have a problem dropping on the server , or having Major Lag problems.

I noticed a very weird problem when i first played on the ELH server after merc-shield was installed. I had quite a hot mech on quite a hot map. Nothing unusual about that tho, i know how to do heat-management.

On this occasion however, if my heat bar crept any further than 3 or 4 bars in to the red (still way below the maximum allowed) i would suicide immediately. And this happened not just once, but almost every life I lost in that game was due to a suicide. Ny first reaction was that merc-shield was shit and causing it to happen but ive never heard anyone else complain about it so i put it down to lag not showing the heat bar properly. Im not entirely convinced tho....as i said I know how to manage heat and I know how much i can get out of my mech before i have to hold fire to let the heat dissipate.

Perhaps there is small bugs in the program which surface now and again or something.
