This is a video of a AC-130 Gunship targeting ground targets in Afghanistan. Very instructive. I did not fully realize the capabilities and frankly they are a bit enlightening. Just be glad they are in the hands of us and not some others....

Simply amazing how much firepower that thing can shovel out. It looked like there were bombs going off, and not bullets spraying. I assume there are explosives in the bullets?

Either way, that C-130 OWNZ!! You can run but you can't hide.

WOAH! I thought the C-130 Gunship fired a 30MM mini-gun, or am I thinking of something else? I remember seeing a show on the WINGS Discovery channel on the C-130 Gunship and it used a mini-gun for shooting targets. Knowing that they are firing 105MM rounds, that is scarey as hell.

Thanks for the clarification Steel. :)

I believe they also have the miniguns you mentioned, but i thought they were 20mm. Perhaps they are just not visible in that video. One thing i read about the AC130 was that it could basically kick over into a nice banking turn and saturate a single ground spot with fire - a cone of fire.

From fas.org ( http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/ac-130.htm )

Armament:
two M61 20mm Vulcan cannons with 3,000 rounds
one L60 40mm Bofors cannon with 256 rounds
one M102 105mm howitzer with 100 rounds
