Cross your fingers!

Post by Kamikazi »

Tomorrow morning at 0530 all 600 AFROTC cadets are meeting in the auditorium to discuss "big week". The Detachment is giving out info on who got commissions, who got pilot slots, and more importantly to my class, who got summer programs. I signed up for ASSIST, which is an officer-shadow program they are offering to upcoming sophomores. With any luck, I'll be shadowing a pilot- if so, you have VERY high odds of getting an orientation ride in his aircraft, even if it is an F-16 :) :) :)

Cross your fingers for me, I might be flying fighters this summer!

PS- I just found out my Academic Advisor is a former F-4 pilot and graduate/instructor pilot at Top Gun!

Well, the meeting took place this morning around 0600. The Colonel, however, had not been given the PDT (summer training) orders yet, and we should receive those soon. On the plus side, commissions, field training spots, and pilot/nav slots WERE given out.

In Det 157, we had 22 cadets be selected for pilot slots, and 9 for navigator slots. This totals to 31 placements, out of 52 applications.

Our Flight in particular is extremely happy at the moment, because our Flight Commander was one of the 22 who received pilot slots.

I'll let you know when I get the PDT info.

It was a great morning to see the faces of the new pilots, and their new sets of wings- I can't wait for that day!

Welp, PDT list just got posted and I headed over to the Det HQ to read it. Turns out only 5% of the ENTIRE detachment got summer programs. Thats around 30 out of 600 cadets. We knew the list would be smaller than anticipated due to the USAF's current quota, but only 30 names? Most of us feel like we got REALLY screwed, but hey, it happens. Oh well, more time to make some cash this summer.
