Explosive Ordance Detail. I am not exactly sure but they are the equivelent and sometimes superior to the Armies Engineers. EOD specializes in one thing and the Army Engineer not the Corp of Engineers do a variety of things. Again don't quote me.
Sorry Madrus is right it is Disposal not detail but they are part of SpecWarNet.

WoW SEAL TEAM SIX was disbanded. The people I truely called shadow SpecWarfare. Now they are DEVGRU or the Naval Special Warfare Development Group.

If anything else this website is interesting. At BAS website there link to Navy SEAL's they speak on ST6 being disbanded.

From BAS Website.
A significant event in SEAL history happened in 1995 when the much maligned SEAL Team Six was shut down due to a highly negative reputation within the naval upper command. A new group, known as DEVELOPMENT GROUP was raised at the same time, supposedly to test and evaluate new weapons and tactics, but they actually also serve as the Naval Special Warfare Command's counter-terrorism and maritime assault unit

Explosive Ordnance Disposal - says what they do right there...dispose of explosive ordnance - sometimes they dispose of it explosively as well...

The are NOT special forces... They specialize in explosives and the science that goes with them. Often details of EOD personnel will be attached to a special warfare unit. Every military installation that does live fire has a detachment of EOD, or one responsible for that installation. I do believe in the Army they are part of the Corps of Engineers, but not sure.

They are definitely not the same as Combat Engineers - those are the guys that specialize in breaching obstacles, minefields, field expedient explosives, creating minefields, blowing bridges, etc.

Interestingly, yesterday I was at NAVEODTECHDIV ... Naval Explosive Ordinance Disposal Technology DIvision which is part of Naval Sea Systems Command, but the installation actually serves all the service branches.

I heard a story yesterday about a case where an entire pallet of old ordinance "went up." The cleanup alone cost $8 Million. That doesn't even count the cost of the weapons that were spent.

Is it any wonder that the installation is located in the most remote portion of southern Maryland?
