Crossbreeds are better than pure breds, more intelligent and they live longer too since pure breds usually have genetic disorders that curtail the dogs life at about 10 or 12 such as arthritus german shepards are hit bad with that.

Working Collie or Huskies - my father owned a working collie/black lad cross when we were real young, his name was Skipper. A real loss to the family he was.
It's currently a subject matter in this house, and I have point-blank refused. Given our current circumstances this isn't the correct environment for a dog. It would be unfair to both, the dog and the family, should there be anything that would force a parting from one-another. Whether temporary or permanent. And the only one who has actually experienced that is myself. We shall eventually have a dog in our family because we ALL want one. But now is the wrong time.

Mastif is my favorite. Anyone of the breeds you can't lose with. They are great with kids (overly protective of them even with there master), they treat them as if they birth them also they learn there territory quickly especially as pups and they will defend that border with there life. There is a breed of mastif that was breed to allow the invader in but not to leave and also not to kill the invader, just detain him until master returns. of course the most well know breeds are the Bull Mastif and the English mastiff with breeds within them varying in size but not shape and color. I once saw a picture of a puppy that was bigger than most German German shephards he was almost a year old weighing close to 150, that breed (I forget which one) tops out about 220, but they are some gentle giants calm and collected always ready to defend its turf but they hate to be alone for extended periods of time. There only drive is to please there master and that is a serious draw back due to most people's hectic lifestyles that takes them away from there dogs and you have to establish your alpha male or female status quickly with them even if you don't they will still know who is master but they will definately try you more than they should and its just easier on everyone if that dominace is established. And most importantly they are good with guest but if that guest gets out of line you as master better get a wrangle on him or her or there just might be a ensuing lawsuit (no serious damage will be done but just imagine a 150 to 220 pound dog reminding said guest that they are just that a guest and can easily be removed).

Valley Bulldog
I've only seen one, but he looked bad ass and was otherwise well behaved and very playful.
