Friday Night Gaming. You Vote, You Play.

Post by Grifter »

As I’ve posted over the past few weeks, there has been little activity even on Friday nights. Part of the reason, I’m sure, is real life responsibilities. I myself have been trying to get online to fly Falcon with Panzer and Jedi for a week now only to be confounded by a major project for my Principal Leadership course. Still, I’m wondering if part of the issue isn’t lack of interest. As some you know, we used to be a very tight, regimented military simming group. But now we rarely get more than two or three people at any given time. It would seem that Friday nights are still our best evening for gaming, and while we can certainly meet on other nights of the week for different games, perhaps if we had a common game of interest scheduled for Friday nights, we might revitalize some of the old glory. In a ddition to revitalizing activity, I would like to see us revitalize our well disciplined style of simming as well.

Toward that end, I propose we establish some rules of engagement, some ground rules for gameplay such as comms discipline, chain of command, and other protocols that we used to use all the time. We can do it again. Arguably, the games that are being released these days don’t necessarily fit our style of gameplay, in fact many are little more than ports from consoles. Therefore, we should vote on some games, old and new, that would fit our style of gameplay, peak our interest, and get people to show up on Friday nights if only for a few hours. Please list the games you’re interested in here. I’ll take the list, set up a pole, and we’ll vote on which game we will play on Fridays for one month. Then we’ll revote for the next month to see if people want to move onto another game in the list. Whatever game we choose, we’ll set rules of engagement (ROE) and ground rules and observe them when we play. So if you find this idea appealing, then list your game choices here. I’ll set up a pole by next Wednesday or so.

I'm up for anything I have, even if I have to reinstall it again, no big deal.
That's pretty much everything Panzer listed.

I don't care what we play, I just have to find the time TO play. I was on Friday night for about 30 min. Jedi was AFK and nobody showed in the 30 min I was on, so I went to play Age of Conan for the rest of the night.

I have 5 weeks of school left this quarter, then hopefully I will have more time to play. I will be getting my Computer Network Systems (CNS) Associate's Degree at the end of August 2008, then it's another 2 1/2 years until I finish the Information Systems Security (ISS) Bachelor's Degree program.

I'm sorry I missed you Softball. I was online around 9:00pm my time on ventrilo and then Grif, Jedi and I decided to come back at 11:00pm because they had tv to watch.

well, very few people have responded thus far; in fact, the people who have responded are the ones that typically meet on Friday night. No one else? I guess I'll leave it up for another day and then go with what I've got here. Perhaps, people are looking for a different evening? If so, say so here.

Well i have been Awol for a few weeks now, but thats down to having to concentrate on Real life crap rather than lack of interest.

I have to get up earlier in the mornings now which means staying up late after getting home is now an option that i only have a couple of times a week and since i have to get up very early on Saturday mornings, Friday nights just aren't an option at the moment.

My wife has changed her hours and it means she usually waits up for me, so i spend an hour or two with her then goto bed, when it used to be she was already in bed and i spend an hour or two with you guys.

It's annoying since i did see Grifters attempt at getting Falcon up and running again and i really do like that sim and wanted to learn more about the ground attack on it as i always usually went A/A as i really could whip ass on that side of it.

But i will try and get on when i can, maybe when things settle down around here a bit more. As theres nothing i want more than to go head to head with Griff in a dogfight match on falcon just to get the rust off LOL.

Would love to do that Nem. Yeah, we've been trying to get Falcon up and running, but real life crap, as you say, has been ruining my gaming plans. We will eventually get something going in that regard, and it may very well be on Friday nights, but we will see what others would prefer to play as well. BTW, don't be afraid to come into the vent when you join and see Panzer, Jedi, and myself already playing something that you may not have or want to play. If you have a game that you'd like to play, chances are we'll stop playing and switch over to that game after we finish up said mission.
