A friend of mine at school told me about a program called "iDump", it apparently lets you backup your iPod to the HD. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm most certainly gonna check it out.

iTouch allows you to back up as well. However, it costs money. It's a nifty program that's worth the money IMO.

Because a while ago, while trying to do something else ( I think burning some video to DVD) I seem to remember upgrading to the latest WinDoze media player.....and since then all my audio and dvd playback has been fucked.....completely

Was it Windows Media Player 11 that caused that problem for you Buff?

well before I moved, I went thru a lot of my cds and ripped them using iTunes....it was automatic.....now its not so i have to use windoze media player....which wont actually PLAY my cd's but it will rip them to a folder so I have to then copy them into iTunes and then erase the folder off my laptop.....pretty much a PITA

Well, I've committed my first NOOB screwup already with my new I-Pod. I wanted to free up hard drive space so I deleted the music files that ITunes had created for me when I ripped the songs off my cd and transferred them to my IPOD. I didn't realize that when you do a "sync", the ITunes will then ERASE any songs that are on the IPOD which are not currently on the harddrive. I thought "sync" would just UPDATE my IPOD with any new songs that I had just ripped. Sigh.

What I do is import the songs I want from my HD into the iTunes library. iTunes will convert the songs (if necessary) and then I will manually drag the songs from the library onto my iPod via iTunes. That's it."
Thus why I stated above that I make sure iTunes is set to "manually manage my music." Live and learn. ;)

Yeah, I know. This was definitely a Homer Simpson "DOH!" moment for me.
