I just watched this documentary tonight (streaming over Netflix), and WOW. I thought it was a detailed and moving incite into what happened at Abu Graib prison in Iraq 2003, albiet it was more or less one sided. There were only interviews with the "key" individuals who were involved, but no point of view from anyone else (Top Brass, Iraqi prisoners, etc..), which I found somewhat dissapointing and lacking as far as documentaries go.
After everything was said and done, yes, what they did was wrong and immoral, but I thought brushing the whole thing under the rug and letting the little guys take the fall was complete BS. I was appauled to see that the CIA and MI (Military Interrogators) were not charged with the death of one of the Iraqi prisoners. The Interrogators just made him appear to have a medical problem and whisked him away, never to be seen again.
If anyone here has a Netflix account, and enjoys documentaries, check out Standard Operating Procedure on Netflix. Be warned, it is quite graphic.

Some would argue that it is well deserved considering what brought our military to this point. When the day is done the ends do not justify the means and an eye for an eye only leave's alot of innocent people blind. In WWII the German's and Japanese did so many things to our side including an attempt to kill our POW's by burning them beyond recognition and the German's well we all know what the SS did and that just isn't cool no matter how you try to justify it. In the end to many of the wrong people were tortured and executed for the deeds of a select few and the people who carried out those orders.

Oh, there is absolutely no doubt about all the horrific things done by the Japanese and the Germans during WWII and there is no doubt that the right side won WWII. I was simply pointing out that the Allies (especially the Russians) were not squeaky clean and that the use of torture in war has been in existence for thousands of years and committed by pretty much every country ever involved in a war.

Ok, I watched "No End In Sight", it was "ok". Most of it discusses the political side of the Iraq war, the key players in the White House.
Yea, I am certainly aware of the stuff that went on during WWII, but this involves U.S. American soldiers. We are better than that, no? One thing that was mentioned in some of the interviews was that if there were no pictures taken of the behavior in Abu Graib, nothing would have come of it. Yea, the pictures are evidence that something did occur, but they don't tell the whole story. As they say, a picture tells a thousand words, but in this case, it is not enough words.

That was my first point though that there were cases where German and Japanese POW's were tortured by the US during WWII.Softball wrote: Yea, I am certainly aware of the stuff that went on during WWII, but this involves U.S. American soldiers. We are better than that, no? .
