while warhammer is fun, i would definitely call it s stretch to be tactical. in my opinion it is just a lower level RTS...the combat is still quite abstracted.

I see you point, but personally, i like the mix of the 'tactics' and the immediacy of the action in Dawn of War. Plus morale is taken into account, with certain weapons causing morale to drop, and the enemy troops to subsequently break, and either flee, or fight at a greatly reduced capacity....it's horses for course really...whilst i enjoy the odd sim game as much as the next man, i definately am a beleiver in too much realism. I guess that's why i've never really got on with hardcore flight sims. For me, if the realism gets in the way of the playing of the game, it can lose appeal fairly quickly.

Certain weapons comment made me thing of Comanche 3/4, where you could request an arty strike as part of your weaponry. I think it was two strikes per mission. Anyway, just thought I'd throw that one in there . . .

there is something similar in DoW....once u get a required buildings set up, your force commander can call down an orbital bombardment....a definate case of more bang for you buck

Yep! Standard practice these days - bomb the crap out of them with airstrikes, follow-up with long range arty, when they get ready to surrender - go in and slap them around on a more personal level.
