Aye , the Ba Ba Black Sheep with Robert Conrad is classic. I grew up watching the series and ever since then I’ve always liked the Corsair.

Never knew there were so many planes in WWII

You mean Israeli ?

I’ve been looking for Israeli dog fights the last few weeks. Someday I’ll find one worth posting. So far all I came up with is Takeshi dog fights, who clam to be the best in the Mediterranean Sea. right..

The best lists and even these I have seen to be rather biased depending on group doing it where oens based on a specific time and to specific style of aircraft. Ie WW1, and fighters,, WW1 bombers.

I would put in the main time zones as

WW1
Inbetween WW, Yes there where aircraft in here
WW2
Korea
veatnawm (including aircraft after korea)
Modern aircraft.

Then use Fighters and bomber grouping on that time line. As in reality how can yo compare a WW1 aircraft with modern aircraft, both have things that changed aircraft design and function, like the folkkers shooting through the prop, versus the flying wing of the stealth bomber design. Very different things but both advances

Here is the answer to your question Veg:
F-16I SOUFA FIGHTER DESIGN
The F-16I is fitted with a pair of removable conformal fuel tanks provided by IAI. The conformal fuel tanks (CFT), holding 450 US gallons of extra fuel, are mounted on both sides of the upper fuselage. The very low drag configuration CFTs have a very small effect on the aircraft's agility, handling quality and flight limits. The use of the conformal tanks increases the aircraft's mission range and combat endurance.

The fitting of conformal tanks makes the two wing inner store stations normally used for external tanks (stations 6 and 4, each rated at 4,500lb capacity) available for weapon carriage, doubling the aircraft's air-to-ground weapons capacity.

The F16I is fitted with a dorsal avionics compartment. The first version produced with the dorsal compartment was the Israeli two-seat Block 30 F-16D aircraft, produced in the late 1980s. The large dorsal compartment extends from the rear of the cockpit to the fin and houses additional avionics systems, chaff and flare dispensers and the aircraft's in-flight refuelling receptacle
Here is the link to said article Air Force Technology

This site gives a very detailed line by line explaination and design change for the F-16I.

Here is another article about the CFT's: Global Security

As I read this article it makes me wonder why in the hell the USAF won't adapt this aircraft. Obviously the IAI has extended the life of the Falcon.

Just the IAI, hell if I had the money I would buy one. From what I was reading in the articles pilots now have the ability to keep their extra fuel and still engage in turning fights with any aircraft. Thats a definate trade up for me. Only draw back I see is (and I don't know how these things are designed) a couple rounds hitting the external fuel tanks and igniting it. But without knowing the specs that is only a guess.

same issue as the below wing tanks. But O well. and ya I saw that to in article, almost no degeneration in flight characteristics and speed.

This is true but if you go into a knife fight you won't have the under wing tanks so what was not a problem is now a big big problem.

There's fuel in the wings too, you know. Bullets go in there just as easily.

This is true...but that is a tried and test system of what about 60 plus years, these CFT's are not. One good thing about them is that some versions are jettison capable (if I read the article correctly), that would be kinda neat to watch the CFT go thru the stages of jettison and also you can easily find a leak if it is penetrated.
