yup!
BTW - Steam is a content delivery system. Nothing to do with how a game looks, etc. It is what pissed a lot of folks off about HL2 because they could not play because you required an internet connection for Steam...or Steam would not run. I think it also functions as a type of verification for the software - register/key verification.

Don't mistake Steam for Source.
Steam is a content delivery system.
Source is the engine behind HL2, CS:S, DoD:S, and Vampire:Masquerade.
The 2 are NOT interdependent, and many other game engines can be delivered by Steam. Hence, RO is based on the (I believe) Unreal 2.5 engine, and should basically look a little better than the free one now available but still not as good as HL2, FEAR, Q4/D3, etc.
Take for example HL1, which if bought at retail now or patched up to 1.1 requires Steam to operate. It's based on a hybrid Q1/Q2 engine and isn't actually "Steam powered" like ads would have you believe.
To use a car analogy, if your car is the game, Source is the V6 under the hood and Steam is the highway.

My original post was correct - I said steam. My reply to Kodiak was the confusing part.
However, the bottom line is that one would not need to have UT installed to play RO in the future -- my understanding is that this new version will be UE2.5-based and standalone.

That is correct. It's only the current 3.3 version of RO which requires the UT 2004 game to be installed.Gator wrote: However, the bottom line is that one would not need to have UT installed to play RO in the future -- my understanding is that this new version will be UE2.5-based and standalone.
