Still having wireless router trouble. We bought an omni directional 7b antenna in hopes of increasing signal, but the signal remains low strength and Sabre keeps getting dropped connections. Really really sucks.

Possible reasons:

1. There is at least one if not three walls between her and the router and antenna. causing RF interference.

2. There is a wireless phone in the house that runs on the ghz. as the router, We've removed one of the two phones out of the way in hopes of preventing issues. Funny thing is that when she's in the same room as the router and the phone, she has perfect connection.

3. She has a D-Link card that plugs into her USB port to receive signal. Thing is probably a piece of crap, imo.

4. The router is an A router. My father says that is the problem. I should have a B router so that she can get signal in the other room. Not sure how legitimate that claim is. Smitty, the one who gave us the router, seemed to think that this router had what it took to give her connection in the other room?

Immediate/temporary solution:

1. I'm going to snake cat 5 cable out ot the living room through the basement ceiling up through a phone jack. Problem is switching from wireless to a hardline connection for her. Anyone know how I go about doing this so I dont screw up my router? D-Link.

2. Smitty is sending a card to us that he says will bypass the USB. Not sure what he's sending but he says it will help?

Any thoughts on how I fix this and increase her wireless connection signal strength?

actually your best bet is a G router and card... that will probably clear up all of your issues. you should still be able to use the new antenna (?) with the new router if you stick with the same brand. no guarantees though - it could just be something funky with your house that interferes...

Actually I had it wrong Steel. we're using a D-Link DI 524, which is a G model. So I dunno. Maybe when the card comes from smitty. Any other thougts?

what is the card? they both have to be G to get the extra features and reliability.

Sorry to hear you are still suffering here, mate. Me personally, I have my boy's PC hard-wired on a LAN cable. Very simple, but the problem of cable snaking through the house can be minimised by keeping it tidied as much as possible. The only other problem being when you re-set, so will the connection of the other PC, to the net. Not a major problem though, given your current problems, and a cable as long as need be will only cost $10-15. Just make sure to get hold of the right one, you will more than likely need a 'cross-over' cable.
