So I said to myself, I said "Cpl Montleon, now that you have some time to yourself, what would be the most monumentals waste of time you could conjure." And then God answered me. Here you go:

I think I'll play Syndicate Wars now...

Oh, and what are you flying this weekend, I need to make sure I have the latest patch(es)

Nothing has been mentioned for the weekend coming. But there is a bit of a MechWarrior movement going on right now. Maybe you'd care to check the appropriate forums, EVERYTHING you need is there.

Cool

Cool, I'll check it out... Does everything I need include the actual game (is it abandonware or something?) or do I have to buy that part? Because fat chance of finding that in Okinawa on a store shelf..

Ok, now for you simaholics. Here is test. Three flight sims going WAY back to the day. Name them :P

looks like
1) F-19 Stealth Fighter (Microprose)
2) Whatever that "Frogfoot" sim was called ... can't remember
3) LHX

I played the heck out of all three of them.

Yeah, the 1st one does look like F-19 to me too. The next two I have no idea about.
Go to the RL gaming link, everything that you need is there. We are running v3.02a, so make sure to install that version of patch, and not MP2.01a and/or the 2.01 HD patch. Okay?

1. Install game.
2. Install PR1 patch
3. Install v3.02a patch
4. Find a nice mech (I'm STILL looking! )
5. Join the melee.
8)
I had loads of fun, just running around blasting things and blowing-up myself often enough!

The first is F-15SE 2. Notice that the stealth bar is replaced by a fuel gauge in the most unlikely of places! :)

The 2nd and 3rd are indeed Su-25 and LHX.

those microprose folks and reusing their sim engines. I knew I recognized that font and pit layout. I never actually played f15 on the pc. I had it for my c64. the other two i played on pc.

No A-10 Cuba? http://www.gamespot.com/pc/sim/10cuba/

How about Longbow 2? That came out in 1997, not sure if it will run on Win 3.1 though.

F-15s take off from Carriers? Look at the right MFD at the first objective: TAKE OFF FROM USS AMERICA Too funny, I remember the game, those were the days.

I remember sitting in a hot USMC warehouse playing LHX on a military PC. Lol! Fun times. I think it was 1989 or 1990.

Gator had it right the first time...F19.

Now why in the hell are you using win 3.1?

I'll check out the mechwarrior stuff. I used to be a big mech warrior guy back in the day. I could find myself getting into that. Still, we'll most likely fly something Friday night I imagine. Either F4AF or IL2...just patch both to recent. Don't use the self patcher for F4AF..download the patch and install.

never

I never really played A10 Cuba. I played the Dynamix A-10 game.

That one was fun. I played Longbow and Longbow 2 as well... Those were all DOS games though if I recall, so I guess technically you could run them on DOS 6.22...

I had copies of F19, LHX, and SU25 to make the screenshots though. I don't have copies of A10, or Longbow (2)....

Oh, and it is F19. Not only does the F15 not take off from carriers, notice on the right the 'LED' (if you can call it that...) that says BAY. Last I knew F15's don't have internal bays for their weapons. I will grant you though that F15 and F19 were both made by Microprose and had almost identical graphics, though I wonder if the flight models were at all different....

Not only does the F-19 not take off from carriers (since it doesn't exist, but the F-117 which does exist can't), but in the old F-15SE games you DID take off from carriers.
F-15SE 3 was the first one to make any attempt at realism.

You cannot

You cannot make the assumption that the F-19 does not or at least did not take off from carriers.

Though the Air Force has never formally acknowledged the existence of an experimental aircraft with the designator F-19 (or any other screwy but similar designator like YF-19, X-19) there are still many people who believe it existed as an experimental stealth aircraft.

And there is no telling whether the Navy was at all interested in or involved in development of a variant capable of carrier take offs. Who knows, maybe once somewhere somehow one even took off from a carrier. Then again probably not... :P

Shoot, LHX was made in 1990. The LHX was presumably the Comanche, which just got canceled, and the Osprey just went into active service yesterday (not literally.)

I had A-10 for the Amiga, and I did eventually get a copy of one of the PC A-10 sim/games which wasn't bad for the time. I also remember having the MiG-29 game for Amiga, that was seriously 'difficult' at the time. But a lot of fun.

You need a lot more people to run a carrier than a base when the carrier is at-sea. There's no way any carrier ever went out with a 100% TS-cleared crew. It would've been leaked long ago if that ever happened.
I'm not saying there weren't plans for it, and perhaps the A-12 emerged as the "white" version of the "black" plans. I just think people give way too much credit to things being kept in the dark. I think it works out that the likelihood of a leak rises as the square of the number of people involved!

For sure the danger of info being leaked increases rapidly with the greater number of people being involved. But it's not truely about the quantity, more the quality. And the greatewr number of people you have the greater chance there is going to be a drop in integrity. It only takes one, right?

Well, I was reading that there were some 40,000 people cleared in on the B-2 program and they never had a leak. However, that's a bit different than getting an entire aircraft carrier cleared. Quality, as you said!
