new user requires admin activation

starting now. sorry to all those folks signing up. i just spent 20 minutes deleting all the bogus, spamming users from the forums. this means an admin will have to intervene to allow new users to be able to post.
also note that you will require admin activation if you change your e-mail address. ensure you can e-mail an admin as you will not be able to PM until reactivated. or you could PM an admin before you change your e-mail addy...

No need to be sorry mate - at the end of the day I feel you're doing the right thing. Which is looking after the best interests of those of us who are regulars on the forums, the server itself, and not least those potential new additions to our forums and teams who need to know they are joining/socialising with us in a safe environment. Kudos to you for taking the time to do it.

How are they getting past the "Admin Approval" registration requirement?

Is there a security hole they know how to exploit?

Well, I don't think any one of the admin guys would just allow access to whoever, given they must be aware of the problems we're experiencing in that respect. So, in my mind it must be exactly that.

I do see kind of a pattern with the names, a word/name followed by a number.
Sounds like an exploit one way or another.

Steel, you said you need my help to approve new forum applicants? I have not seen any apps. I'll continue to monitor the forum for misuse and abuse, banning all who do so.

well, i cleared them all out.
there is no exploit - they/he/she is registering all the accounts... shame on you guys for starting rumors.
btw - none of them should be able to post unless they are activated by an admin. if someone wants to create a new user to test and see if security is working correctly, that would be great.
Grif,
are you checking the e-mail address associated with your username in the forums? if so and you are not getting e-mails then I don't know. I will look into it sometime...

Fixed my e-mail. Should work now. I'll stay on top of incoming requests for forum access.
