Hey wassup guys??? Sorry I haven't been around but right now I am engrossed in my baby and also I just passed the first leg of a three or four step process to become a fireman for the city of Chicago. The physical abilities test was a piece of cake but now I must pass the background check then full physical with x-rays and such then a aerobics physical for stamina. I'm only worried about the background check for only one reason really and thats because I have a other than honorable from the Navy which was about 15 years ago(I made a stop choice, the old fork in the road, which direction do you go in and I chose wrong), so now I'm shaking in my boots hoping they don't hold that against me.

Also I took that test back in 1995 and they just got to my name, I am actually one of the last from the men and women who took that test that will be called, they just gave a test back in May and that is the next pool of candidates.

So guys wish me luck and hopefully everything turns out in my favor then comes the 6 months of bootcamp all over again. 3 months of EMT cert training then 3 months of fireman cert training, feels like I'm going to go thru SEAL training (but I know it can't compare) but almost 20 years ago is the last time I was put thru the rigors of any training of that type and I was younger and my physically capable of doing that sort of stuff. You won't here me complain though I am just happy for the opportunity to start off from day one making about 45k then once school is over a 5k pay raise and the potential to make 70k after 5 years of service.

I told my wife if I make it thru this then I will never have to seek gainful employment every again in life, just a side job because I will only work 92 days out of the year.

Talk to you guys later

Won't say it'll be a piece of cake to do so, but am sure you are more than capable of explaining exactly what you just said on here - you were young, yet to mature, even foolish. That was something you did a long time ago, and have never repeated - a lesson learned. Today, you may be the same individual, but with your experiences of life you have grown and become a more complete person . . . yadda yadda yadda . . . . ! C'mon, you know the drill here.

Ok in a nut shell, I am going thru a background check to become a Chicago Firefighter, but I am worried that my other than honorable will stop me from becoming one. More than likely not but hey you never know right.
