Got a chill right down my spine when the controller authorised "Shuttle go throttle-up". That was the only time I ever managed to watch a launch live on TV, and the Shuttle simply exploded onscreen. :(

So it's been over 20 yrs since you watched one? Jan 86 was Challenger.

hell I was in HS that day giving blood in the red cross blood drive. They had a big screen TV (yes they had them in 86) and I had just had the needle taken out, was watching and boom. It blew up and 9 people around me fainted. I'll always remember that day.

That day, 9/11, Earnhardt's crash in turn 4 at Daytona, and the Red Sox winnign the WS.

Jedi Master and I were in the same computer class in jr. high school and I remember the Challenger tragedy being announced over the PA system. I remember that moment very well.

No, that wasn't the last time I watched a launch, but I hadn't watched one 'live' except that one. Has it really been that long since that disaster?

Yeah, there was a little ceremony here in Jan commemorating the event. With the loss 3 years almost to the day before of Columbia it had added weight.

I hope that nobody finds this offensive or insensitive, I simply posting a link to the video of that tragic day. I remember I was in my Geometry or Algebra class in HS when this happened. All the classrooms had TV's in them and the teacher turned it on after the incident for us to watch. It was a very sad day I remember, almost along the same lines of 9/11. Even after 20 years, it gives me chills watching it again.

Yup, I remember I was actually in science class at the time, kind of a biology type class. They came over the PA to announce it, I didn't see anything of it until I got home hours later.
