Someone one is stealing my Wi-Fi ! It’s got to be one of my neighbors. My only satisfaction is to turn off my modem we I see them hijacking my Wi-Fi.

Does anyone know a way to put a password on a wireless router with out it being too complicated ? Or a program I could used to keep them out :?

Use a higher/highest encryption method that requires a PW to connect to the network. What wireless router do you have?

any rounter for wireless well have a key setup. Bascilay you set a key (password). Next time he or you try to connect to the router, you well be prompted for a key. enter it and it never ask's again. but the other guy is screwed. Trust me it works, when I was stealing wireless, and one of the better connections went to a key, I was ticked. I mean come on, I am only there for a month, please let me use it :D

And that is the problem I have with most of these providers selling these routers. They do not tell the consumer that they must configure the damn thing so it can be secure. Call your provider and have them give you the intranet address for your router and have them walk you thru setting it up for secure connection.

Ok the internet provided sold you a router??. If yes then don't expec tthme to tell you crap, just follow all manuals and you should be fine. If no manuals cal them right away. But ya they don't ssuem responsibility for your home networks.

Hell ever hear of war driving. Idea is drive around with a laptop finding un secure networks and playing with them. Say adding a key so that they have to do a compleate reset of there router.

but ya, don't expect them to tell you squat. always do soe research when usings a new toy like a wireless router, and usualy you well find all you ever wanted to know and more.

It’s a Linkys wireless G that we bought at Comp USA. We also replace our modem with a newer one that we bought at Office Depot. I’m not sure if there is a way to password the modem but I’ve head of pass wording a wireless router before. Yeah im not running an wireless internet coffee shop here and im going to get this figured out. 8)

So okay I’ll see if I can find the setup disk we got with the router and see if it can provide me with some password info.

I’ll look into this as well ~~> Use a higher/highest encryption method that requires a PW

Thanks , I’ll get back to this thread with the results l8r.

EDIT: I just realized you figured out the Admin PW info...erase erase erase.

What I mean by encryption settings was for you to change the security level at which clients connect to your network. On my friends wireless network that I setup, I have it setup for the highest possible security level so that the client has to enter a certain PW/KEY to access the network.

DA is correct, there are so many people that go out and buy a wireless router, hook it up and have no clue that they are doing and end up sharing their wireless connection with their neighbors unnoticed. Let's not try to be one of those people, mmmkay?

I left my wireless channel at 6 – 2437ghz ( it goes much higher ) but I did raised my WEP Encryption to 128 bits -28 –hex digits. I just did what the Linksys web page told me do to . :D

So far so good. I might raise it later if I have anymore problems. Right now were good ! I just had to input the encryption key into my wireless computers before I could get them back online. Thanks again for the info and the help ! Woot !

as long as its keyed, and working don't worry aobut it. Even if its a week key, who cares as 99.9% of the people who are stealing it wel not bother tryig to crack it. I actulay know a friend who did a thesis on wireless security and he even showed the keys can be cracked, but its takes a bit of work. The big thing is it takes work, and most don't know how and the rest well not be willing to spend the time.

When I was stealing it a few weeks ago (1 month in a guest house no net, i neaded to game o god i neaed it lol) there hwere realy good signals but keyed, and even me, someone who could crack it did not bother. Just to give you a idea. You are set man, enjoy.

Now if only you could change the key prompt to somthing like "hey bitch, you need a key to get into my network, sucker" just to let the oens stealing it know you knew :D
