"The word apple comes from the Old English word aeppel, which in turn has recognisable cognates in a number of the northern branches of the Indo-European language family. The prevailing theory is that "apple" may be one of the most ancient Indo-European words (*abl-) to come down to English in a recognisable form. The scientific name malus, on the other hand, comes from the Latin word for apple, and ultimately from the archaic Greek mÄ

Ok well you guys need help first off.

Second. I never got to leave here untel 12 last night (showed up at 9 am). The upgrade which went fine on every test machine screwed up on a production server. Fine we have a backup. But um they could not seam to restore it. Tool form 12 pm tell 9 pm to get it restored. Had to then push oer all data that had accumulated over the daya nd such. And ok now we try the upgrade again, as boss thinks it was a simple mistake that fucked it. NOPE same error. So got the guys to restore it again last night. So figure get here in morning and it would be restored, guess what, nope. So server still down, its not my fault, but well neadless to say been one fucked up few days ARG. U realize this weekend my kill cout in city of heroes is going way above its already great normal

you should be doing upgrades during low user time/maintenance windows... i.e. the weekend. not bring a production server down during a weekday afternoon. also, if the upgrades went fine on a test server, use that for production until you have the production server up and running, sync the database with the now-current-production-test-server and switch to it.

Um litlte more complex then that lol. the production system is actulay 4 machines, replicated to each other with fallover in effect. So we can take one down and live easealy. And actuly 12 pm here is a low user time. The achines used 24/7 as guys in japan and india use them as well. And weekends are also a high usage time as all apple stores use these machines as well, and thats ther peak times. Our low time is in the morning tell about 2 pm week day. But ya the backup thing which should take a hr is whats realy killing us as a restore ment to be fast, not 6 hr or some dumb number.

restores are never as fast as the backup itself, unless you are restoring from disk...

if you have 4 machines replicating and can take one down - should be easy if the system/dbase architecture is right.

i had the network guys take a backup of a partition that they put on disk. So took 1 hr at 22mb/sec rom server to there machine. Perfect. To restore shoudl ahve taken 1 maybe 2 hr's but the speed to the server is running incredabley slow. Aparentlay they ahve a major issue that makes me sit here for hr's on end waiting for a restore. I want to drive out there and whoop these guys. Its 5 pm and its not back. and the boss wants to re initilize the data which could take me 3 - 6 hr's in the directory server form one server to another to make sure we are compleatelay in sync. The replication should take care of it but he wants to be sure. I am going to have a LATE day again. I am paying for last friday for taking it of, I know it.

Well lets see, 2 14 hr days (thursdaya nd friday) and a few hrs sat and sunday form home. the buygs dealign with backups relay need to fix there crap as it dose not take form 1 pm friday tell 9 am sat to restore 7 gigs. Neadless to say, we have a relay bad crash of servers, and we are screwed. But aneway got the directory server up sat afternoon and re initilized the data over the weekend just to be on the safe side even tho replication should kick in and upload the recent stough aneway.

Tho just to realy piss me off sat, after all this, my mic craps out so sat was a tick off when trying to game to release stress lol. sunday, I bought 2 mics, a little cheep one and a good usb mic/head set. So the good one dies (and it well) I got a backup lol. and my backup works as soon as I plug it in, not a day later like my server guys backups lol
