QUESTION ABOUT LCD MONITORS

Post by Buffalo Six »

I know little to nothing about them. But I am thinking of getting like a 22 inch jobber. my question begis with if I get a wide screen type, will it distort games that are not ment to be widescreen? I currently have a nice 21" NEC monitor....huge, heavy and looks great, but I'm interested in a LCD

any help out there?

Ok I have a 22 " Acer one thats on newegg. Trust me for 300$ its a STEEL. And I have to play some games at 1600-1400 because no wide screen support. I relly domn't notice it to much at all. Its somthing you realy should not be to concerned about at all.

Ther emay not be pic's in this link as newegg has a text only version which I have to use at work (dam proxy servers blocking sites like this)

but the monitor I HIGHLEY recommend for that price range. I spent a LOT of time looking for a lcd and that one blew the rest away. Only one that I would take besides this one is the gamer 22" listed below

this has come down in price as well. the acer was 330 and the other one almost 400 when I got mine. but to be honest I love the acer, and to be honest I would still take it over the gamer one. Only difference is the aspect ratio which in all honesty I don't think is as high as they are saying anyway. Nore would you notice a difference.

As for gaming, most older games don't natively support wide screen aspect ratios, but there is a site (widescreengaming.com) that has workarounds for most older titles.

One of the benefits of Vista/Games for Windows logoing is that MS <requires> wide screen support in order to display the GfW logo on the box. Hopefully, this will be the beginning of wide support (pun intended).

I've been playing IL-2 on an 19 inch Samsung TFT for almost 2 years now and it looks great. I've had no issues.

mine does not equally stretch the whole image if you are playing a 4:3 game on the widescreen. it stretches it a bit more on the edges than it does at the center, and you can actually hardly tell.

I have the DELL 24" LCD WS Monitor, I absolutely love it. It has a 1920x1200 native resolution, and I can run my X360 on it in 1080i HD. The LCD supports up to 5 seperate input (yes, I said 5) devices, VGA, DVI, S-Video, Composite, and Component. My PC uses the DVI input and my X360 uses the Component.

They have a 20" Version as well, but it doesn't support as many devices, and has a lower native resolution.

well also note a 24 " is worth a hell of a lot more. 22" wide screen pricess are GREAt right now then moving up the scale it just JUMPS. 22" wide scren seams like the next major monitor size to replace 19"

I actually checked out a 42" widescreen job at bestbuy and I nearly fell on the floor, then I thought man what game would I beable to play on this monster effectively. I currently have a 19" widescreen and I played madden '07 (on my old system) and there was no problem with aspect ratio but I did have a problem with shadows and lighting (maybe because I needed to update my video card drivers), now that I have the 19" hooked up to my new box I am pleased with the results.

well I bought an Acer 22" WS from Compusa for $325. I am not liking the text "look" at the native rez of 1650x1080. normal text like I am typign here is all thin.....not happy about that. I messed with the brightness, and it seems a little better, but its still messign with my head. COH looked great once I fiddled with the colors. GRAW crashed hard with a stack error.....have not investigated further, I will see whats up with that sunday.

Freakign screen is huge

i have had no issues with GRAW due to my monitor - and i had a crt and was playing it on that. can't see it is due to the monitor...

do you have your icons set to larhe? in properties for desktop gp to settings then advanced and look at your icon sizes. try changing them around.

you might also look at loading the custom profile (.inf file) for the acer monitor...

yes i grabbed the drivers from Acer but when I try to install them It says my current drivers are higher....who knows.

The Graw thing was a bad save point. I went back one point and all was fine

I have messed with the brightness and its getting better....heh but now I have my text and fonts sizes in the menubars and stuff are all screwed up....lol

I think I'll just have to pound Veg into paste.....this was his recommendation =)......ok....I'll let him live

eh dell monitores no better then the rest. most are bought from other manufactures aneway. hell majority of 22" screens including aces are from chemia (not spelled right) but aces unlike most others has 3 year wattenty, dell u got to pay extra for that

as for text, never bothered me at all the was it is for me. May just be u getting use to it

as for GRAW, i have same monitor, no issues so I don't see the monitor as the problem. I did end up getting cntrast 40 and brightnness to 25. Its a bright monitor but once you tweek settings its great and crystal clear. Text I think again just the brightness and contrast being high and eyes getting use to monitor
