Shatner Mega Ego?

I've read comments online and seen live interviews from people saying that William Shatner supposedly has a huge ego. I've always been skeptical I guess since I usually like to give people benefit of the doubt but I think this story does it for me:

William Shatner would like to go where one man has gone before -- himself. In interviews over the weekend Shatner expressed disbelief that he has not been cast in the forthcoming Star Trek sequel, although his original co-star, Leonard Nimoy, has been. The London Daily Mail quoted him as saying, "I can't believe it, I'm not in the movie at all. Leonard, God bless his heart, is in, but not me. I thought, 'What a decision to make, ' since it obviously is a decision not to make use of the popularity I have to ensure the movie has good box office figures. It didn't seem to be a wise business decision."

So I guess according to Shatner, the movie will be less successful because he's not in it? Whatever.

In fairness to Shatner, it really doesn't make good business sense to not cast him...but I'm willing to bet it makes perfect plot sense. Still, I see what you're saying; it's rather egotistical for him to think that he has automatically earned a spot in the film. silly man.
