So for Christmas I figured I was a good boy this year and went out and picked up a Asus G1s laptop and a Apple 16gb iTouch.

For the last few days I have been busily ripping all my cds into iTunes and making playlists (yes its addictive) and I ended up having to buy a 500 gig external HD to store music on.

Anyway I need some advice on video editing. I have a camcorder and I need to edit some of it and put it on a dvd. My laptop will burn dvds (even lightscribe them) and I have the Nero 8 suite but I think thats just to capture video...

Any suggestions for a video editor thats not expensive but will do basic editing?

Those are some nice gifts Buffalo. As for me, one day I'll get an MP3 or IPOD.

there was a time I converted and edited video. Now I just convert with AVS smart converter. There are several video editors you can try at Download.com. Might as well check out the reviews while your there. Also this COREL Ulead DVD MovieFactory 6 Plus at newegg sounds cool.

Windows XP Pro SP2 has a watered down video editor built in called Movie Maker 2.0. The one you bought sounds like a decent one, I'm positive it has more features than the Windows version.

Congrats on your new toys. I would get an iPod Touch but I already have a 60Gig iPod Video, so no need.

I'm doing this on my Laptop and using some of my external 500gig HD for it. This laptop has Vista Home Premium loaded on it (it came with it...oh well)
I bet it has some form of it somewhere but being as there is no documentation for vista I'll just fumble around and figure it out.

I have the original version as an EXE file. You can DL it and check it out if you want.

movie maker is the way to start... then figure out if you need more. not sure if just the .exe will work - it may need other files as well.

don't get ulead - crap (my opinion).

i am likely to get Vegas Movie Studio PLus as well. good reviews, and if you are a Costco member cheap (if they still have it...).

might work out.

can you not copy the camcorder movies straight to the hard drive then load/import them into vegas???

have you tried searching for a solution to the problem?

here are some known issues of version 8. i assume you have version 8, +DVD package?

what kind of camcorder do you have?

-HDV capture requires that you have a registered version of the Sony MPEG-2 plug-in on your system.

-The Sony Handycam USB driver that is included with DVD-based camcorders can prevent Vegas Movie Studio from recognizing a USB-connected camera. If you use the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel to uninstall the "Sony DVD Handycam USB driver" component, Vegas Movie Studio will be able connect to the camera and import video using Import > DVD Camcorder Disc.
