I think my Graphics Card just shot craps

Friday night (or maybe it was Saturday....whatever) I booted my PC and all was fine until after about 10 mins my screen got corrupted with random text, and some funky blue after images from different windows. So I rebooted....and now the it wont boot, keeps dropping into a safe mode boot and the screen is filled with random text. Oh and this little box floats around my screen saying "Incompatible Signal"....
So did my Evga 7950GTX2 1 gig card just die? Of course its 16 days past the 1 year warrenty

Its hard to tell at this point. What I would do first is try booting off your Win XP cd and see if you can run a "Repair". Maybe your video driver got corrupted? Do you hear any strange noises coming from you video card fan?

it wont even boot in safe mode...once it hits the desktop it hangs and reboots....I'm pretty sure it is not a virus because my virus scanner ran on boot up on firday and I let it run the full scan and did a spyware sweep also....nothing popped up, and AVG updates daily.
edit:::: I did smell something...like when a fluorescent bulb goes out.....sigh...like I needed this right now

In that case I would remove the video card from the case and look at it closely and see if you notice any burned out circuits. If something did blow or burnout on the card, there should be some evidence of that.

Or just smell the card real good...lol. You should beable to see the damage and try using a magnifying glass also just for the hell of it!

Try putting it in a different computer. ( you have another one there?) Load the drivers for it and see what’s up. Then you’ll know what's the dillio.

Just remember what old Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big old storm right in the eye and says, "Give me your best shot. I can take it."

Ok do you have another card that will fit in that pc, maybe form your old one. Would have to be PCI Express card. Basiclay you want to make sure its the card and not something on the motherboard side that is screwed up. I have seen card slots burn out so they where not usable.
Second was the Fan tunning on the card, if not bad sign.
Next look over card very carfuly, any burn marks, or bubbling on a chip or anything that just don't look right.
Next if the card seams fine and fan still running put it in another pc. Again thats assuming your old one runs PCI express and not AGP. If you cant test the card and don't have a spare take the card to a computer store (good one) and they should be able to test it out in a system fast for you.
So sum up
1: Test Motherbord with different video card
2: dose the fan work
3: inspect card for damage
4: test card in different pc
Worst case its a excuse to get a 8800 GTX

Evga does have a lifetime warrenty....IF you remember to register the damn thing....opps
otherwise its 1 year...and my 1 Year was over Feb 2nd....double opps
I dont have another card to throw in, and frankly right now with closing on my house...I dont have time to extract the PC from its den of wires and shit...so I'm on the lap top for a while.
I dont have the cash to drop on a $500 8800gtx card right now anyway....when soon I will have to write a check for $19K

Yup, the GT is only about 10% slower than the much more expensive GTX.
