Well I have used about 10 different headsets over past 5 years and all have failed relatively fast. I am now down to using a backup boom mic. but looking for a new headset, can anyone give me some good recommendations that will LAST and is high quality. USB connection a requirement.

I usually use Plantronics brand headsets. I have been through a few over the years. The mic died on my current headset, so I am using my web cam mic, seems to work good enough. I don't have to worry about adjusting the mic boom, but a downside of using the web cam mic is that it picks up more ambient noise. My next headset purchase will probably be a USB version, or possibly a wireless Bluetooth version. I already have a Bluetooth stereo headset I use for my laptop and cell phone, I may have to see how it works with Ventrilo on my gaming computer.

Why do you want to use usb for your headset? Do you have a soundcard that is integrated to the motherboard?

My experience is that USB headsets are clearer then the analog ones used through sound card.

For me, convenience. How much better would the quality be going through the sound card? It's a headset. Besides, I think it uses the sound drivers of the card that is installed, otherwise we wouldn't need sound cards.

No idea why but I ahve used both and best sound form usb. plus for another reason, my laptop mic input sucks and usb mic is way better on there.

just dont get one liek Panzer's.....one voice booming well above all others is all I can take lol

no, if you have a usb headset it has its own set of drivers. you can remove your sound card. the downside is that it is all software...

i do not use headsets, else my surround sound is a total waste.

well I use the headset just for the mic I use speakers for the rest of it. I want the mic of a headset as usually clearer and less background noise.

LOL! Why do you think I did so well on my high school debate team? All the judges said I had very good voice projection.

Right. You miss out on all the hardware acceleration stuff like EAX.

Good voice projection, but you have literally zero ability to lower your voice! You only have an "outside" voice!

Yet small children are always told to use their indoor voice! Good figure.

I use a Logitech set, no USB but sound is good through my Audigy 2ZS and it is padded, but has an open ear design so my ears don't get hot and sweaty and heat up, very comfortable and the head band sits at the back of your head not the top.
