Veg's New toy

Just made the order for the below items on newegg, figured since I qualified for the 12 month deferral payments thing (so pay off in 12 months no interest) on new egg I would just do it. Funny part about the preferred account, tried to sign up for it yesterday in Canada, it would not accept me, get state side and try and here is your credit limit, lol. they actually figure out where you are in the world making the account, funny I think.

As for the CPU the one I want q9450 a 2.66 ghz quad core chip should hit the market this week sometime, but will buy that with real cash since I have enough for that. Figure since I am more then just a gamer, quad was the way to go for me. Plus I will overclock to 3 ghz so will be a fun toy.

Also said screw it not waiting for the striker II extreme form ases, its a SWEET setup but the thing is about 100$ over the EVGA offering with little diffrences and the EVGA board reviews are good. tho the Striker looks amazing, O well lol, looks for 100$ and have to wait for it, screw that as no idea when it would hit.

So hey take a look and tell me what you think of this toy

Nice. Aside from the (2) 8800GTS Video cards you got there, I pretty much just ordered the same setup for work. Only (1) 750GB HD though? I ordered (4) 750GB Western Digital HDs for the work computer, going to setup a RAID 0+1 with it.

Another note, I hope the case you ordered can house (2) 8800s, they are rather long and barely fit in the case I have (Aurora 3D)

Have fun with your new stuff :)

Thats the same case Buff has and its a decent sized case with the power supply on the bottom out of the way of the motherboard, should not be a issue. If it is, let me find my dremmal

Now if I can find the dam chip I want its all done.Image

I can't believe you went DDR3. A LOT more money for little improvement. It's like paying double for the GT model of a car.

I just spent $750 (before rebates which I HOPE I'll get but don't bet on) to go C2D 6850/P35/DDR2/same video card as you, but only one/SATA DVD burner upgrading my existing case, sound card, 2 HDDs.

well seamed like the right thing to do, less then 200$ for high end ram with great timing is not that bad at all. Basiclay this system is to last me a while and hey faster the ram the better in the end. It will come down then I will get more ram going to atleast 6 gigs (2 gigs now 4 later). Basiclay right now you are right but in a year that changes, got the most up to date I could as that means upgrading a few items in a year or 2 will be worth it.

Veg, I have that case and the vid-card was my only thing to warn you about. The power supply isn't what would be in the way. It's the hard drive brackets in front that make the vid card a tight fit. You should have no trouble unless the 8800GT is longer than the GTX I have.

You will need a 64bit OS to use more RAM. I have 4 in mine but Win only sees about 2.8GB .... system has to use a lot of the address space for my vid ram (768) of which you will have more of. You will not get much more than 2GB usable in a 32bit OS. IIRC.

Other than those two comments, you should be very happy with what you've chosen.

Oki gator your 32bit os can see up to 4 gigs BUT thats 4 gigs total including page file. So you should be able to turn off the page file and get all 4 gigs of ram, as page file in the os is considered part of ram so bloody slow. Look it up, I found out about it when looking up thats tuff. But anythig over 4 gigs yep 64bit os, but thats alter on I figure.

no, i show more than 4 gb with page file (5727M, specifically). It only sees 2.8 of RAM. It's due to the number of addresses available and it uses some of the address space for other devices, such as the ram on the vid card. So, the more ram on the vid card, the less of your system ram you'll see.

That post/thread doesn't say what you think it says. Tell me what you see when you build your system this weekend. The proof is in the pudding, so they say. Build your system with your old vid card, check, then put one new card, check, then add the second vid card and check. That will tell the story I bet.

page file is NOT included in physical ram available. windows has other issues in not seeing the entire 4GB. video memory is not part of the issue either, unless like on some laptops the video memory is shared with the system - not likely your case either Gator.

try adding PAE extension switch to your boot.ini file...and you might be able to see more of your ram. probably some bios settings that can be changed as well.

On the subject of PAE, here is some info for you all:

PAE is enabled - didn't have to do it myself, was automatic.

thats the board I was going to get but said not waiting and knew it would be more expensive so went with EVGA equivalent but wow 470$ for the thing, thats just nuts when its very similer to the EVGA equivalent. Few features I would like that I would spend another 20$ on but not that much. But dam it still looks dead sexy PDT_Armataz_01_12
