I figure this is a good time to ask since I won't be getting one anytime soon, but eventually I'll need one to store Mp3's etc. I plan to convert my music library someday. So does anyone know anything about these? Should I get the 2.5 or 3.5? what the heck is a 3.5? or a 2.5 for that matter? I'd want something that is easy yet fast and stores a lot..Suggestions?

I use a Western Digital 500 gig "My Book" external drive to store all my iTunes music on. its pretty much plug and play and was not too hard on my wallet, hell terabit externals are less than $250 now

I have the same one that Buff uses, very nice HD. Requires an external power source. The 3.5 refers to the footprint size of the HD. The standard PC hard drives are 3.5" and the smaller laptop style hard drives are 2.5".

I also have a WD 320G Passport 2.5", I use it for school (it's about the size of an iPod Touch / iPhone) and it's very fast. It does NOT require an external power source, only a USB cable that connects to the PC.

WD Passport @ Amazon, $149.99

for one that sits on your desk don't pay anything voer 110$ range. You can find some for as losw as 80$ fr a 500 gig on sale. Microcenter always has some on sale, and so dose newegg. As for brand to be honest I would go segate or western digiral. Both are good.

Sounds good guys. I appreciate the input. I'll seriously be eyeballing a 500 GB as my digi-music collection grows.
