Just watched this movie again recently, man what a great military movie. Chokes me up every time I watch it. Makes me want to play ArmA.

It's a great movie indeed about an event where US soldiers got screwed over by the UN. The operation in Somalia started off as a purely humanitarian one under the auspices of the UN and when Warlord Adid started causing problems who did the UN run to for help in catching him? The US of course and we were left holding the bag and ended up with over 20 killed in action.

no but he set up the ROE's that put us in that situation. also he pulled the Marines out, handed over security to the Paks (er,,,the UN), and then got target fixated on Idid. Food and aid were being delivered and the situation was pretty stable until the Marines left. Sort of a small scale version of what Iraq will look like when Obamessiah and the Hildabeast succeed in abandoning the Iraqis to Iran and the Wahabbi factions

I'm reading "Killing Pablo" as we speak. The BHD book was indeed excellent. The author was Mark Bowden. I believe he is a newspaper reporter from Philadelphia.
