They do not make guys like him anymore. I see he spent alot of time over the skies of vietnam in his career. What I'm trying to figure out is why did he go from fighters to bombers. He did what few could do when entering UDP but hey maybe it was his personal choice. What was his rank when he retired?

Captian......its a long story. Basically because when my brother was born in '76 and we were at Castle AFB, in Merced CA, because of several birth defects (which I blame on the stuff they sprayed around the air bases to keep the jungle from overtaking the pavement......9 first borns after completing their tours in my dads Wing all had very similar defects....go figure) We were tied to Merced CA because the only doctor west of the Mayo that could take care of my brother was in Fresno CA, so we stayed at Castle for 7 years, and at that time in the Air Force, it was up or stagnate....but dad really loved being an IP. He was the last chance IP for B52 students that were really having problems refueling, he didnt loose many.

As for the fighters to bombers, well everyone was trying to get F-4 slots, and the waiting list was rather long. He took the FAC slot to bump up in the list, and when he got back found out that slottign had changed again, and it was either tankers or Buffs....and he didnt want to be a bus driver...lol. His father was a bomber pilot (B25, B17, B29) so I dont think he ever had a problem with it. ATM hes just about the only guy still at Boeing that has any time in a Buff, and why he will remain on the In Flight Emergency team.

Somewhere on steels FTP I have a recording of one of his B52 missions...no idea of what the link is

hey buff thought you said he had airfrorce 1 work under his belt as well ??? did not see any of that in list.

But that is one DAM long list to say the least. And as for b52 last I heard they are going to run them tell 2050 if I remember right. Hell most pilots for them where not even born when they where first made and even heard of atleast 1 case where a new pilot got to fly the same b52 (well upgraded ) from the one his father did.

The old 707 (Dash-80) version
C-135(V) Air Force One (the old one): SSPP, SHA, SAR

The New 747-200B Tail #2(8000) and #2(9000) with #(10000) being built currently...VC-25A Air Force One(current ones): SSPP, SHA, SAR, THA

Since VC-25A came into service, this has been the main aircraft my dad was responsible for, and has almost grounded on a few occasions much to the dismay of the Air Force.

And with IRONIC overtones, they were actually going to re-engine the B52 with 4 RR engines (cant remember the model) because the current engines on the Buff have not been in production in over 20 years. The RR engines were the only ones with the power/thrust ratios combined with the ground clearance (outboard nacelle clearance) that would fit. I have a VCR tape somewhere of my dad putting a B52 into a tire smoking, 8 wheel drift on the ramp at Edwards trying to drag a nacelle simulator (the lowest point on the nacelle for the RR engine).....it is funny as hell to watch. Anyway the IRONY is that a few years ago when this project went to congress for funding.....they said no...they didnt want a foreign parts supplier involved with military supplies. And then they award the new tanker to AIRBUS, which now has to be re-bid because the competition was rigged to favor AIRBUS.....ironic no?

oh and the current fleet of B52H's had their keels laid in 1964-5....just saying

I knew that the prick going for president was in on that but suprised to hear its being rebid, how did that happen as last I heard it was done deal even tho boeing had exactly what airforce asked for in all sized while airbus needed to develop lol

Actually it was the Air Force that rigged the RFP (request for proposal) when it became clear that Airbus didnt have an air frame to meet the size requirement and thus pushed the size to the A330 4 engine monster that cant meet the mission of staging out of small airfields or fit into existing hangers etc... They didnt tell Boeing about the change to the RFP until 4 weeks from proposal deadline, and even then cooked the numbers to favor Airbus....

dont even get me started........

McCain didnt have crap to do with it other than rightfully callign bullshit on the Air Force leasing 757's from Boeing and converting them to tankers because the top level people puttign that together were banging each other and are now or were serving jail time for cookign the whole deal. The Boeing side of all of that were VP's that came over when Boeing bought out MacD.....and according to Dad, Boeing military went down hill from there because all them dudes were, and I quote my dad here...."Fuck ups of the highest magnatude and corrupt to boot"...end quote.
