Some War Movie Recommendations

Post by PanzerMeyer »

I have no idea if you guys have seen any of these but in my opinion these are damn good war/military movies which didn't really get too much media attention and/or buzz.

Anyway, here is the list;

Master & Commander
Cross of Iron
Sink the Bismarck
Letters from Iwo Jima
The Beast
Aces High

I've only seen Master and Commander, Letters from Iwo Jima, and The Beast from your list. All are great movies.

I'd add...........

Das Boot (unedited full length subtittled version)
Dark Blue World
Atonement (sort of a war movie, set around Dunkirk)
Bridges at To Ko Rei
30 Seconds Over Tokyo

I've heard great things about Bridges at To Ko Rei and Dark Blue World. I'll see those soon.

There are quite a few really great movies that aren't really "war" movies per se' but they do show plenty of combat and take place during a war.

The English Patient
Last of the Mohicans
Barry Lyndon

It looks like something I would watch. If not in the theater at least I should get to see it on dvd.

Oh, and I made the mistake of reading the posts in the IMDB message boards about this movie. Sigh.

I'll add "Band of Brothers" to the list. Great great movie, but it was shown on HBO in its prime but it didn't get much media attention.

EDIT:

And another:"Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War"

I'll add "Battlefield" to the list. B/W film that portrays the horrors of Bastone very well.

I was actually referring specifically to all the anti-US comments in there.
