My modem shot craps

Post by Buffalo Six »

My modem went tits up on Sat. night. I was in CoH, beating on things and I mapserved (disconnected from the game server) and I could smell burnt stuff (like when a florescent bulb thingy goes poof) and well the modem is toast. I'll get a new one Fri or Sat depending. So I can only post during work hours (you know when I'm actually supposed to be working).

On the midway update, I have 7 missions complete, 3 more to finish, and then some tweeks to preform. One mission I cant get the timing right yet. Still working on it.

I take it you bought a modem instead of renting from cable service provider ?

prolly something between where the power plugs in and ...well where ever the power goes. it was not like it was on fire or anything, something just fizzled...dust or debris could have gotten in there or something.

You say you were playing CoH. Were you running your fire/kin? If so, the sheer unmitigated OP-ness was probably just too much for your poor modem!

(Actually, I'm just kidding, but don't say anything about it on the COH forums because some folks [aka 'dumb ol' doodie heads'] are calling for Troller nerfs and they'd probably use this as another excuse to nerf Trollers.)

15 hell I think mine is 4$ a month rent. At that point the idea of its 100% going to work or its replaced is worth it. but 15 a month, crap thats to much

I pay something like $10 a month. I like to have the safety net of knowing that if it breaks or something goes wrong with the cable modem, it's not my problem. Besides, every year or so, they come out with a newer / faster modem and I can upgrade to it for free, so to speak.

Buff said it lasted 4 years so even if it were $4 per month he still saved money by not renting. 4yrs x 12 months/year x $4 per month =$192.
