I just found out this AM that the company I work at will be closing in 60 days. I guess I better start looking for a new job...like that is going to be easy in today's economy. I knew it was only a matter of time. *sigh*

From the frying pan, into the fire...

Is your company getting bought out or is it going into bankruptcy? I'm sorry about this Softball. Did you say your company is some kind of biomedical/research facility?

He obviously doesn't use spell check for his posts on RL Gaming!

Dude. That sucks. Boy this whole "life' thing is just getting better every day isn't it? However, I think Panzer did mention that the CIA or FBI is looking for computer geeks? Can't hurt to send them your resume.

The meeting entailed the company giving us our "official" 60 day notice, and that they are in negotiations with UCSD or The Burnham Institute for a possible merger. There is no way a merger is going to happen in 60 days. We were also told that the building and surrounding property were being placed on the market for sale, $30 Million +.

The good news for me is that the lab I work in and another lab that we collaborate with have a Plan B, Plan C, and Plan D in place, so if the company does close, I will not be out of a job. One of the "plans" is to start our own company and continue our research as a private entity.

that sounds like pretty good news. At least someone is thinking plan b, c, d.

That's good to hear. What do you mean by private entity though? Dont your work for the private sector now?

We currently work within an institute/organization, and SKCC is a Non-profit organization. What I mean by starting a private entity is starting our own "for profit" company.

I'm hoping I get a salary increase in the transition; I haven't had one in 3 1/2 years. But I won't complain if I don't, I'll just be happy to have a job.
