Question about income tax in the USA

Can someone explain to me why we dont have a flat income tax rate in the US? The way I see it, a progressive income tax is penalizing those people who make more money. It's basically the government saying "Well, we think you make too much money so we're going to take a higher percentage of it".

Let's do some very basic math here. Assume the flat income tax rate is 15%. 15% for someone making a million dollars a year is a lot more than 15% for someone making 50,000 a year right? So tell me, how is that a case of the "wealthy" not paying their fair share of taxes?

same crap in Canada. Hell here the taxes done on the amount you make on that pay cheque so say you do a lot of overtime that cheque is put you in a higher tax bracket. With me I lose 1/2 of my OT pay to government. Now mind you that gets adjusted end of year but still. But ya there are pay points where you get taxes so much u make as much pay as a guy in a lower tax bracket.

because a flat tax and a sales tax have both been proprosed in place of income taxes; even voted on in at least one case, and the great american sheeple have spoken; they like income tax...

Its a damn shame and crime how much we've allowed the Feds to deviate from the Constitution.

it's even more of a damn shame that they came up with not one but two means to get their money without violating the constitution and the sheeple said, "No, please, we'd rather continue being violated and receive it up the ass"

crime is what the Ontario Provincial government is doing here. Federal government of Canada put in large tax breaks because of recession, which is great. but Ontario government did the opposite, raised taxes, including combining GST (federal) and PST (provincial ) tax. the reason that's a pain is GST not on food, and other essential things even not on insurance. So since provincial now enrolls it into one they basically keep the extra tax from GST on items not meant to be taxed by GST for them selves. So if you are in Ontario like me all the federal tax breaks get nulled out. O and there is a provincial refund, 1000$ for a family or 300$ for individual so I will get 300$ WOW. This especialy hurts people liek me actually, because I am tghe kind of person helping to stimulate economy by spending cash lol buying a bike, saving for a house all that stuff. But now with more tax across the board I get screwed. Hell even a 8% gas tax, come on. The current Ontario Government needs to be taken out and shot, o and ya this is the same guy who promised to not raise taxess hence why he got in.

In response to Panzer's query, how we allowed them to distort and deviate from the Constitution: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cfwsfGq ... re=related
