to be honest its surprising that this stuff don't hit the news a lot. there is a LARGE amount of pirates taking ships in some areas in the world where Canadian, Us and other courteries ships pass through regularly including cruse ships.

Where do I sign up to find and hunt down pirates? I want captain a ship, give the order to turn her to gain the winds favor and present broadsides....FIRE!!!! No more pirates.

My understanding was that they don't allow the sailors themselves to be armed. But there can be a armed guard on the boat at all times which some company's do have. But that's expensive to have people with guns who are highly trained sitting on your boats 24/7 idea. When needed GREAT when not its pricey idea. Now I think training the crew to sue guns (not just handing them the guns idea) and some tactics and such would go a long way but the UN then has a issue.

Now there is the non leathel alternatives, one is that high engergy sound generation toy that has actually been used to fend off pirate attacks on a cruse ship off the African coast if I remember right.
