um WOW if this is for real dam. anyone else heard anything
In all honesty these things are overpriced considering costs of the f-35 coming in the pipe. But considering the R&D and such already spent, thats a lot of coin that can be considered wasted. Reminds me of the Comanche

Appears legitimate, and not wholly surprising. It's a very expensive aircraft, and while I think it's better than the F-35, the F-35 is more versatile by design. Scrapping the 22 is in line with the military's current quest for one bird fits all situations, an ideology I don't personally agree with.

my thinking is if they can make the joint strike fighter f-35 cheaper why can't they make a f-22 like aircraft for cheaper.
Now mind you there is quite a few f-22's made already so its not like you only got 10 idea. so they are there and flying already but just will not have as many. So toss in a few extra joint strike fighter and to be honest should round things off.

Yeah no, it don't work that way. I don't really see them combining units that way. I'm not sure if the F-35 is cheaper. I think it is. The bean counters on capital hill want the most for their dollar. They will run the 22's they have until they die, I'm sure, and then retire them. They will most likely replace 22 with the 35, at least that's my guess. If the 35 is cheaper, they will say that it can do everything the 22 can do, and the airframe can meet the air force, navy, and marine criteria. But I don't think that's true. The 22 is simply different, and in some ways superior, aircraft. Least that's my understanding.

lets make this simple
f-22 = f-15 replacment. Yes f-15's have been turned into fighter bombers but not all. Loads of them ae 100% dedicated fighters and thats what the F-22 is.
F-35 = F-16 replacement, A good fighter in its own right but a multi role aircraft for the airforce. F-35 can also be considered a replacement for naveys F-18 hornets (not super hornet) which again is a multi role aircraft which again is a great fighter but not a dedicated fighter.
I realy do think the F-35 is a great fighter from what I have seen, just as the F18/16 are amazing fighters but its not a 100% fighter so concessions are made for bombing thata re not made in the F-22.
think a big factor is also there is nothing out there that the F-15 is a match for, so the F-22 is a complete leap ahead of anything out there idea. Great to have but in all honesty even the F-35 should be comparable and better then anything even being designed but down the road they could come up against something out of there league where a F-22 would have still been fine.

It's not "scrapped" or "canceled." It's "done."
They built the number they wanted. They don't need any more than the ones already funded.
The Numitz line of carriers hasn't been canceled or scrapped, but they're not building any more of them. The next one is just not a nimitz class.
Look at it the same way. Now we can get on with the next, next generation of air superiority fighter after the F-22.

they built 187 of like 224 F-22's ordered. Its an air superiority fighter in an age when....well a National Guard outfit with a Cessna 172 and a Rifle could hold that in most cases.....
Cool plane.....ok with it being done....

Even Starscream is an F-22 now and not an F-15. Sheesh.

Now THAT would be a fun flight/combat sim!
"Get in closer, Earl! This here 12-gauge has a punch but no range to speak of!"
