Display tearing

i knnow this is probably a dead issue, with Griffy resolving his problem and all. But I found this on Tech TV's website and it might apply:
Jason in Atlanta gets screen tearing when he plays "Quake III." He has a 2.4-GHz CPU and an ATI Radeon 9700 video card.
The problem isn't the CPU. You have plenty of horsepower. The problem is between your monitor and video card. Your monitor can't catch up with the number of frames per second your card can display. This is what causes the tearing.
To fix this, you need to turn on a feature for your video card that makes the card wait for the monitor's vertical synch. Open the control panel for your video card and look for this feature. It makes the card synch with the monitor's speed.
