I found some free Anti Virus software from Microsoft. I am going to DL it and check it out. If you are interested, get it here:

It requires Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 and it can only be used on a "Genuine Validation" enabled computer. IE, it won't work on hacked or illegal copies of Microsoft Operating systems. It will not work on Windows 2000 or earlier.

I don't know how effective it is, but I've been using it for a couple months now. One thing I like about it: It never gets in the way or bugs me like AVG started to do.

What problems was AVG giving you Gator? I've been using AVG with Windows 7 with no issues so far.

I have been using AVG for a few years and I liked it quite a bit. However, it seems like it was during the summer like june or july, it started bugging me (nag-ware) to upgrade to their paid product everytime it updated it's definitions. I got tired of the pop-ups and nagging.

I wonder if you haven't been using it long enough. I wonder if they have a thing that checks when it was installed and begins nagging you after a certain number of months to upgrade to the paid product.

Exactly. First always on AV I've ever run. It's perfect.

That may be the case indeed since I've only been using AVG for about a week!

Microsoft Security Essentials really is the simplest non-nagging AV I've ever seen. It doesn't seem to bog the machine down at all either; I installed Windows 7 in a VM on my now somewhat crusty Mac, and installed MSE; I don't even noticed the lag...

It doesn't constantly pester for update - just keeps itself updated, sits in the corner, and is nice and quiet. I tested the cleaning process with eicar and it's all straight forward.

The only debate becomes how well it protects you. And I'm basically willing to believe about as good as any other.

And it's free.

Did I mention it doesn't nag? I can have AV installed and not have my desktop experience be about catering to my fucking virus scan program. I don't think the download even tops out at 4.8MB eiother which is also a nice touch....
