would like thoughts.

do i get a laptop with an NV GTX280M or and ATI HD 5870 mobility?

note that the NV is based on the same chip as the 9800GTX still for mobile; it does not compare to the desktop GTX 280. the 5870 mobility should perform somewhere between the desktop 5770 and 5730. the cards wil drive a 1900x1080 screen. it will probably be a 15.6" screen.

or if you have a recommendation for a lesser laptop video card based on performance and value, like to know that as well.

if you have a recommendation, please explain why.

If you're gonna get a gaming laptop, I would get the faster of the two cards. I am not familiar with their specs comparison wise, but I'm guessing the GTX280M is the slower of the two if it is using 9800 architecture. Also consider which card will have the most problems (if any) with the games you will be playing. Problems = frustration.

Personally, I've been more or less hooked on the Nvidia line of cards for 5+ years now, I don't like the intrusivness of some of the ATI drivers and software. Just my opinion.
