Steam

Steam is available for mac now. They're going to start releasing games on wednesdays. If you already own a game on windows and it's released for mac you'll be able to play it for free on mac too.

Linux client is supposed to be coming by the end of summer.

Steam gets major kudos from me for this. Maybe more games will be released for Linux and Mac because of this move.

Obviously it's up to the developers to release the games for other platforms, but it seems that at least valve is interested in doing this. Blizzard games are released for Windows and Mac, and usually run in wine without too much trouble on Linux.

Happy Days.

that is pretty cool - just got to get the developers to make games on other platforms (with their advantages as well).

This is going around the office at my new job like wildfire. We are all on Macs and Steam was probably the most downloaded thing at work today. Lol. Yes, my new job is pretty laid back. :)

the only thing im disappointed in is that it looks like games have to be part of 'steamplay' when you buy them to get the cross platform bonus. For instance I've bought Civ IV already, so now that it's steamplay I don't get the mac version.

I'm honestly more interested in linux support in my case, so I guess where I can I'll try to avoid buying games until the linux client comes out and I can get it with linux support as well - all three would be even better since I have a Mac laptop where I might enjoy playing some older games. (it's a few years old so not keeping up with modern titles)

Getting a Mac for gaming is like getting a Toyota Corolla for off-road racing.

I dunno about that Panzer, some of the new Macs have Quad core Intel chips and Nvidia gaming cards. I'm thinking there is some potential there, it's just a matter of the mainstream games being written for the Mac.

PC users outnumber Mac users by quite a bit. Considering the reduction in the PC game market due to the consoles what makes you think the publishers and developers will make more games for the Mac?

ya, so Civ IV is now downloadable and installing on my laptop, and all the Civ IV games are showing up as installable, so I guess some games even if you purchased them before the 12th will be playable on mac too. Mega-Sweet
