I've never been an HBO subscriber so I'm just NOW getting around to watching "Generation Kill". I watched the first episode last night and I thought it was fantastic and funny as hell!
I've never been in the military myself so I just have one question. Do crazy ass characters like that really exist in the USMC? The Sergeant Major that the other Marines call "Mr. Potato Head" is an absolute riot.

I watched it when it was on HBO, great series. I wish it was longer, but I guess they were on a budget and were trying to tell a true story that wasn't all that long. I'll have to dig out the DVDs and watch it again. It kind of reminded me of the show "Over There" which for some reason abruptly went off the air.

Ya over there I enjoyed but was a bit more over the top in some things I think, but still a good show. I have seen most of this one Generation Kill tho need to get both series.

What I heard is that it got cancelled due to poor ratings.

It was just starting to build up speed and I was getting into the characters, if that makes any sense. I see Amazon has the 13 Episode season of Over There for $25. I might pick it up.

It makes perfect sense. The same thing happened to me with Firefly and Space Above & Beyond!

It seems like very time I get into a show that is slightly off-beat, even unique in its approach they cancel it: firefly, over there...both great programs and both canceled. Annoying.
Generation Kill is worth watching then? Is the story complete or does it end abruptly due to cancellation?
Can you netflix it?

It's an HBO mini-series so there are only 10 episodes. And yes, you can get it from Netflix. That's what I'm doing right now! Unfortunately there is no bluray version right now.

Actually, Generation Kill was only 7 Episodes, but it does finish the story.

Yeah you're right. I just looked it up on Netflix and its 7, not 10! I'm still only on disc 1.
