So if these MMO's go free I guess they only make money from the sales of the actual game and maybe some advertising that is shown on the servers.Tach Deneva wrote:Dunno. I thought they were doing pretty good. But as I understand it that D&D Online game kinda picked up after it went Free, so - who knows.
Them going free tells me though that the subscriber base was less than they had hoped for.

Guess so.

LOTRO is pretty in depth, LOTS to do for sure. It's certainly worth trying out if you've never played it and like LOTR. You can't beat free.

No, when the free part is released, it will be a free DL.
EDIT: This was taken from the top of the VIPCHART: When LOTRO Free-to-Play is available, you can download the game for free and start playing without a subscription or even a credit card.

LOTRO launched in spring of 2007. I was there.
Not sure when it will make the conversion to F2P, but I posted a link earlier in this thread -
http://www.lotro.com/betasignup/vipchart.html
- that shows the differences between the VIP, PREMIUM PLAYER, and FREE PLAYER tiers. Doesn't seem like the Free Play limitations will be too onerous, and of course you will be able to purchase various upgrades if you so desire. I would definitely have to have more than one character slot.
