Yup, it was an April Fool's joke.
BUT - over the weekend you could actually PLAY a Commando in Guild Wars via a quest from Corporal Bane (an NPC from the future) in which you and he travel into the past to stop an Annihilator (an Asuran Golem) sent from the future by the Charr to kill Sarah, the mother of Gwen... and if that plot sounds familiar, it is.
"We are here to prevent the Charr from reshaping history. There is a great hero that is yet to be born. The Charr refer to her as 'The Goremonger', but you likely know her as Gwen. They have sent a powerful Annihilator Golem to kill her mother, Sarah. They hope to prevent Gwen's legacy from ever coming to pass."
