Ventrilo 2.x

Post by Hudson »

Just went to Ventrilo.com; can't download 2.0; it says:
--------------------------------------------------------------
Version 2.0.0 has been taken offline pending the release of version 2.1.0 either sometime Wednesday or Thursday. The Ventrilo clients will become free again. However, the server licensing from 2.0.0 will still remain for corporate/hosting purposes. Those that purchased a regkey will have their money refunded in the next day or two. Thank you for showing your appreciation.
--------------------------------------------------------------

They do some kinda bait and switch move to try and charge people for the client?

I still have the 1.06 client if we were interested in reverting back to that... for those that already upgraded, let me know and I can send you the old client.

Since some of us already have the 1.06 client, would it be easier to have Gator send it to those who don't? Sounds like you have to pay for something for the newer version, the server end I think.

I have no idea what that guy is referring to in his message - I don't know of any license key purchasing... I knew this was coming and said so several times - that is why I have an issue with Ventrilo. He also has it stated that one can not host with the version 1.x server without buying it (apparently) if you read further on the web page... Looks messed up and I woud rather stay away from it. I DID, as stated, download and upgrade the server at version 2.0 yesterday while we were waiting on Raptor. Has anyone tried connecting with version 2 yet? All of the info is the same...

Version 2.1.0 - Client and Server.
See version 2.0.0 for majority of changes.

This replaces the short lived version 2.0.0. Basically it's the same program but without the required registration system. The regkey is still in place and will be used for those people that chose to donate. Those people who do donate sufficient funds (not decided at this time) will receive a registration key similar to what version 2.0.0 used. The only difference is that an "R" will show up next to your name in the user list window as an indication that you do support developers.

Note: There are some things in the works as perks for those who do donate. However, none of it is in place or even coded at this time.

I did not have to register anything with the version I downloaded. Does it work O.K.? Anything in 2.1 that we need? If not, I will get to it when I have more time.

Does the 2.1 seem to take up as much bandwidth? Have any dialup users tried it while playing a game? That was the issue we had with it before...
