what was fallout all about? what kind of game? post apocalypse if I recall? rpg? fps? graphics decent? gameplay?

I actually have not played it myself, despite all the people raving about it since Fallout 1, which is one of the reasons I jumped on this deal.
Think it's a top down like this, more Diablo/Planescape Torment/Neverwinter like

I've only played Fallout New Vegas and I really enjoyed it. It has a compelling atmosphere.

The 3/4 top down version of Fallout had turn based combat. Been a LONG time since I've played it, but it was outstanding! As were most all of the Fallout games.
