What I don't understand is why they can't get this stuff right. It's really not that hard to learn what an AIM-7 is and how it basically works. I mean, if you're making a bloody documentary about this stuff, I would think that you would do your research and be able to present the basics to an audience of laypeople. It's really lazy on their part. The opening minutes of this video shows a MiG-17, and the narrator states that four MiG-21's enter Israeli airspace. Finding stock footage of a MiG-21 isn't difficult. face/palm. They eventually switch to stock footage of a MiG-21 during their summary of Melnik's shoot down of the invading 21's.
Yeah, don't be Trichome. Your expectation that The Smithsonian would get it right is a reasonable one. Besides, it's still a good post with testimonial from the pilots that flew the missions.
