Am I the only one who thinks this is nuts? As far as I can tell, I am the only one left who flies USAF regularly (SP of course), using 8.4 since that is the last one that worked at all. I have posted several times looking for anyone else to fly USAF with me (using 1.01, 1.02 or Admin 8.4 - I do not care).
Yet we still get posts from guys who are getting excited about features and releases of superpro - which crashed more often than i do when i fly.
Just USAF? Try Team Superhornet with Jane's F/A-18; try Resistance with OFP. Hype, Hype, Hype, ....... Oh man, look at these skins; wow, look at this plane flown by the Swedes in 1977 - man, it will be so cool now that it will be included. Woo - look at the detail on those re-skinned AIM 120's. And those flight models - they are so much more realistic (like most of us know first hand what an F/A-18 flies like. In fact, how many of those that bitch about flight models have even flown a Cessna 172 or Piper Cherokee?)
I joined WOF to fly/mp. Or do we have members who join just to flog beta versions of software, to get all excited about future software releases, to complain about hardware/software issues, ......................
I can't tell you how much time i have wasted in the paste year because members refuse to install or configure hardware or software correctly or to follow WOF standards so we spend a minimum time waiting around for everyone to connect and to stay in the MP session without crashing - and i do not mean first timers. I mean guys who should know better, not the newbie.
We need more members who install software correctly, set up their computers correctly, follow WOF guidelines, and
SHOW UP TO JUST FLY FLIGHT SIMS OR FIGHT COMBAT SIMS!!!!!!!!
for those of you that are Politically Correct: I am terribly sorry if I have hurt anyone's feelings.

I concur. Flying in a squadron has nothing to do with the sim, or its realism. Its all about the experience, of going in the air, talking to your wingman, and having them actually fly with you as a team. AirWarrior had the worst flight simulator graphics I've ever SEEN, but when you had 400 in a single theater flying against each other, I couldn't ask for a better place to be. I'd rather be flying old, outdated flight sims with a bunch of good people than be crash-testing the newest piece of equipment with little or no online play.

I joined WOF so that I could be part of a team of people, who enjoy playing some of their favorite sims/games online together. I have met many great people (virtually) since joining WOF. I agree with Raptor, we just need to recruit more people, and maybe ask everyone(current members) what WOF means to them. A week or so ago, Raptor put up a poll on what Black Sheep sim everyone would be interested in flying. It is my observation that either no one cares to fly a Black Sheep sim, or that there are not many members who read the boards to see these polls, because not many people responded to it.
I have noticed the slow decline in online participants(including me, I used to play OFP 7 days a week!), I would say since the end of May. Resistance came out in July and for me, re-lit my OFP candle. Not that my candle ever went out, there was just no one online to play with. Now I have been playing a lot more, 4 or 5 times a week. I have been spending a lot of my online time working in the OFP or NWN mission editor when no one shows up. These are my most recent list of sims/games I have been playing, not necessarily in this order:
Operation Flashpoint Resistance
Ghost Recon + Desert Seige
Steel Beasts
Falson 4 SP3
EECH + EEAH
Neverwinter Nights
Warhammer Rites of War
Team Alligator KA-52
Comanche 4
I am still re-learning Falcon 4, Steel Beasts, and EECH. I would not mind flying USAF again. If there is enough interest, I will re-install it.
(OFF TOPIC)
I was out looking for a B-Day gift today, and I saw Comanche 4 for $14.99 on the shelf. I said, oh what the heck. I have messed around with it a bit, and it's very much an arcade sim/game. The graphics are very nice, and there is a CO-OP MP mode you can choose from. If you can look past the arcade style and just play it for what it is, it is a very fun "game". Not too bad for $14.99.
(END OFF TOPIC)
Anyway, lets start looking into new recruits. The more the merrier I always say. The worst they can say is no, right?
See you online..........

Note: All of this is my opinion and experience!
Well, I joined because I wanted to fly flight sims online...coop and adversarial. I was already doing this with tactical FPS games and Mechwarrior4, and that is what prompted me to search for a sim to start with and by doing that I bumped into Top Gun (Viper). The rest most of you know...
When it comes to actually gaming, my RL has priority (Danielle probably does not think so...!). I have a job, am working on ramping up my own business, I have a live in GF (yes, Danielle), 3 dogs and a cat. On top of it, I have a new house that requires many things done on the exterior. All of that requires attention. I am also 2nd in command of my Mechwarrior 4 unit and run a free reality gaming site with my partner. I have other hobbies as well, motorcycles, Airsoft (organizing a unit as well), sailing, and I am a pilot in trianing. But looking at all of this, I do not think I am that unusual...
So in my opinion I do not think it is too abnormal for folks to not have things just so on their installs all the time, or be exactly on time for sessions, etc. A HUGE part of this is socializing with folks that have the same or similar interests, and that takes time/slows things down as well...
We also show new folks and guests the correct settings for online play, ensuring we all have the same configs, talking them through connecting, etc. If we do not do this then we will not have new folks coming into the group to participate with us... This all also takes time that may eat into actual play time, but is necessary.
We are also, as a natural by product, going to discuss (and maybe some even try out) new releases, mods, old games, etc. Kinda just the natural flow of things... It does not mean everyone needs to, and a lot of posts are first impression things that the poster has not had the experience with and it looks cool/good. Usually the rest of the folks that have experienced the "new" thing will explain the voice of reason... And it is often just talk for the very many reasons (not those exact ones, but similar) in my second paragraph.
Now with that said, we should have official WOF standards for games. I am not sure, but these do seem to be lacking. I have not seen any posts or lists in the site (pardon me folks if it is there and I just don't see it) with the exception of GR about what is standard for each sim/game. If we have these lists, then everyone knows what to have and can strive to have it installed before session time... Maybe a sticky post in each unit's forum stating the WOF standards for each sim that unit uses...??? This may alleviate a lot of issues for many folks before they are issues and answer questions before they are even asked.
Also, something else that should be reflected on is if you DO get through all those RL thingies and say you'll be there, one should make best effort to show up or let someone know you can not. Quite a few folks do invest time and effort into showing and making things work, so some respect of that effort is due... I know that I do not often reply to a post and say I will be there becasue I often don't know. But if I do post - I will show if at all possible. I know for myself if I do not post it is possible that I can't make it, so don't wait on me!

Everyone knows how easy going I can be about this sort of stuff. I joined WOF for all the reasons you folks already mentioned. WOF is the best online MP experience I've ever had because the we've got some of the best people. Should we have set standards for sims, you bet. Should we follow them, yes. Should people commit to flying on certain nights and make every effort, barring R/L, to show up? Hell yes! You all know me, I'm a team player and I believe in WOF. You guys set the standards for each sim and the nights you want to fly them on and I'll fly....including USAF, which I still happen think is a great sim. Once the standards are set and posted on the website, we need to get more recruits....we always need more recruits, that's the way the virtual world of simming works.
Games I play in order of interest
Falcon 4
Ghost Recon
Janes F-18 (really a tie with GR)
USAF
Games I got and could possibly play:
WWII Fighters
Mig Alley.
So now that everyone knows where I stand, I say we set those standards for games like USAF, schedule some nights for sims and start flying again...old school! Most of us don't need real training except in the really hard sims like Falcon 4. So let's be picky about what we do with our spare time, make solid choices for scheduling and get to it! I don't know about you guys but I want to see 6 of us in the air coordinating strikes and making migs decorative confetti!
Griffy.

I cannot reply to this due to my inactive status within WOF. All I can say is I am willing to fly and I try to get 1 to 2 hours a night solo(I just can't get that landing down). RIght now I am enjoying F4SP3 Korea 2005 and soon desert storm theatre's. I am one of the Dead wood's and have no excuse for it because there isn't one
