See he could tell you what "blood wings" means....but then he would have to kill you.

Heh! they did not have that MOS when I was in...(I don't think). REMF! :D

Blood wings: when you are awarded your airborne wings they get pinned on, but the clips are generally not utilized as it takes too much time, effort and coordination to put them on the wings (sometimes over 100 ppl in the graduating class)...so the two pins are left sticking through your uniform. well, a good smack on the wings and the two pins are sticking into your chest. kind of a fraternity thing...

Aye, they call them BLOOD wings for a reason. Too many people asking what those wings are, then they tell em, then they gotta kill em, then they get blood on the wings. It's a freakin' vicious cycle that just goes on and on.

yeah I seem to recall hearing about that fraternity thing, having your whole squad smack the wings, one at a time, as a painful initiation right. OUCH.

My cousin who is retired airborne with his jump master wings told me about the blood wing thing a couple of years ago, he says it is a painful thing especially when the human bears who can bench press a truck in the company comes around to take there turn to so to speak pat you on the chest. Lets not forget that that honor is not local to receiving your wings. Almost any medal pinning ceremony is followed up by the timed honored pat on the chest.

wow. now that is cool about the blood wings.

But in today's military, what happens if they are female?

hehe.. big REMF now. :) I did my share of combat arms as a commo guy while active duty. Now I am doing what I really interests me the most.

cool - me too... although I miss the Infantry a LOT. sorry PV, commo is NOT combat arms! yeah, i know - you were in a combat arms unit.

did you get to an airborne unit? or just jump school? i was just a 5 jump cherry... :) i was in the 101st though. went to rappelmaster school - that was the most difficult and professional school have been to to date.

IMHO all this medal pinning thing is simply macho bullshit gone out of control, and gentlemen, your armed forces are famous for it, unfortunately.
On the other side of the coin; you'll find that the badging ceremony for "The Regiment", consists of being informed of your successful completion of the course and paying a visit to the Sargeant Major's office where he simply tosses your beret (complete with badge) at you over the desk - a very humbling experience all told.
