Just got my new 19" monitor today!

Post by Nemisis »

And all i can say is WOW!

Stuck on Lomac straight away and it is like a whole new sim!

The screen is huge compared to that old 15" i was using since my 17" went bang.

Well after just 10 seconds of playing the quick start F15 mission in lomac my first words in a loud voice were "OH MY GOD" not that i'm religious in any way, but Tracey came into the room and asked what was wrong thinking that the monitor did not work.

I said "nothings wrong but this is amazing!" it felt like i was really in a plane flying at 20,000 feet! the screen takes up so much more of my forward vision it virtualy excludes any periferal vision and just made it feel like i was looking out of a cockpit, especially since i had upped the resolution to 1600 X 1200.

The details that i could pick out were amazing and the landscape was just awsome in the sim from that altitude.

It's like i have a whole new mega PC, all i can say is if you aren't using a 19" monitor or bigger then save up and get one NOW!

A 15"?? Man, I got a 15" in 1995 and went to a 17" in the late 90's, just to go to 19" in '01.

Welcome to the 21st century!! :)

9800 Pro? Is that a video card? If so, any good for LOMAC, and how much did you get it for?

ATI 9800 Pro was the top of the range card before the 9800 XT came out but the XT was only 10% faster and my 9800 pro is overclocked faster than any XT out there, but now that the next generation cards are out that are twice as fast you can pick up a 9800 Pro for £135.

It is still a great card for Lomac though for those that cant afford the £400 for a new 800XT.I can run Lomac on quiet high settings and it looks fantastic.

This combined with my new monitor and the Track IR i'm getting soon will really bring my Flight Sims to life.

Hope I can get a 9800 that cheap. My GeForce FX5200 can handle LOMAC on the lowest detail settings, but when I do a campaign, there is so much activity it slows right down. In contrast, in Mission Editor, with just me and some ground vehicles, it runs fine. The stuttering in campaign is awful in an Su25 (can't do the first mission because I can't line up right)-trying to use a Kh-29 with reduced FPS is an absolute nightmare.

Just took a look at www.overclockers.co.uk, they're selling them as low as £115. Quite a good deal I think.

Yeah, I hear ya with the stuttering thing - I am on GeForce4 4600Ti. Which could hack pretty much anything at the beginning of last year, and now it's just a piece of history! :( Think I'll look at the new NVidia - there's just more to them than meets the eye, and they are a little tougher than the ATI cards if you push them harder.
