Is Joint Operations strictly an online FPS? Also I am having problems doing the updates...basically its driving me crazy. I am going to uninstall then reinstall and make sure Nortons is not running at all.

JO will update from inside the game. you have to have an online account, with a character activated, with novalogic. you should not ever be running any anti virus software while running any game...
and yes, except for training it is MP. maybe when the editor is out, folks will make 'training' missions. does anyone know otherwise?

Since America's Army can do it they feel they can do it also. So what happens to team play, the hunt, silent but deadly. Hell these guys are running around like RAMBO!

Yep. I noticed that when I got installed yesterday. No single player mode unless you are training
Pretty stupid if you ask me - especially when they wanted GBP 35,- at Game shop for the damn thing!
Anyway, that smart little cookie of a wife I have, went down to Tesco, and picked it up for GBP 27,-. There's a lesson for you, Hammer & Nemisis if either of you decide to purchase it, okay - go to Tesco!!

If you want to play single player, start up the game, go into the LAN section, "host and play" any of the coop maps named "Operation" something. There are 11 of them. It's tough with only one human, but you can respawn.
People would be able to create single player "training" missions with the editor.
For people who just bought it - the training missions are useful. They're not trivial exercises. The sniper one particularly. Run through them before you complain that there are no single player missions.
As to the "rambos" ... the old guideline of playing with people you know holds here.

Well I have the update installed and running fine. I had to download the update from novalogic instead of using there wizard(even with BHD I had a problem with there update wizard). Now let me get on my soap box and scream to the NOVALOGIC WORLD!
I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER GAME THAT YOU PRODUCE!
Now the explaination. This JO is a farse plain and simple. They billed it(without saying it) as a Singleplayer/Multiplayer COOP game with words like stopping the terrorist or liberating your country. They billed this game like you are really on a mission to either stop the liberation movement or stop THE MAN from grinding his boot in there knecks, but in reality they are giving a reason for a bunch of Warrior Wannabe's an excuse to blow things up on a massive level. There is no purpose to this game, no structure no goal. Its just a massive butt pirate fest that has gone terribly wrong.
DA
P.S.
I do love the graphics the rendering, weapons and the addition of mortar fire but come on now did they get lazy and decided lets profit off of our success with BHD but without the single player side, why should we have to work hard at this when we know what we can give them and it will be alright.
Now where can I get the editor so I can create my own MAYHEM!
Ummmmmm

Someone having a bad day?
DA, bro, this is a G A M E. You are taking this way too serious, this game was designed for MP and having FUN. You will get the best enjoyment out of it by playing with people you know(WOF, friends), that want to have FUN, and enjoy the game for what it is. There are goals and missions to complete using the MP coop mode. You can play them solo as Gator described. Yea, there are respawns and medics, but so what! I love the graphics, I love playing the game with others who like the game for what it is. FUN!
There is an "unofficial" editor out for it, check the OTHER GROUND COMBAT forums for the link. Gator and I are playing around with it to see what we can do with it. Please hold your comments and frustrations until you have played a MP coop session with the rest of us at WOF. If you still don't like it, sell your copy to someone and be done with it. I look at JO as a common ground for all of us to get together as friends and have some good old fashioned FUN! JO is not and never will be (IMO) as realistic as OFP is/was, but at least it's fun to play.

well, i got to say the same DA.
the update function worked like a dream for the rest of us. so it is something at your end.
stopping terrorists, etc. is EXACTLY what the coop missions do. are you playing coop mode with an organized group that actually wants to do the missions???
as mentioned above, you have to know who you are playing with to get the results you are looking for - it is not the games fault, nor the designers fault if folks do not adhere to an intended effect. we gave GR a try with other groups for a short while - guess what we ran into, run and gun...
there are some things i do not like about the game, but overall it can do a lot of what we do look for.

Okay - just spent some time online with Gator - who is on vacation as of tomorrow morning. My first impressions are quite clear. Realism has had to give way to certain things here to enable the game to be playable, but at the same time it substitutes at acceptable levels for me. I won't detail them here at the moment, but suffice to say that although I empathise with your frustrations DA, you should also understand and accept there are limitations and we also need to enjoy ourselves playing or we won't keep playing. And that is important too - it isn't reality it is a game afterall.
I am impressed by the gameplay provided - riding and shooting from vehicles and helis. Patrolling through water and getting shot at but not really knowing where it's coming from, swimming, drowning, etc., I mean we all liked GR right - but could you fall off that damn cliff-edge? Nope! Could you crawl up that steep slope - nope! Could you jump? Nope! And so it goes on. Could you imagine a combination of the following:
Splinter Cell, G-R, RvS, Joint Ops, even OFP?
Now take everything out of that pot which makes those individually spectacular, and put it all together in a new FPS! It doesn't get any better than that does it?!

Kodiak and I really had a great time. With only 2 humans, the mission was fairly difficult. The last mission went something like this
We spawn in a little compound on a small island. 2 Little Bird Helos, 3 Zodiacs. You have to "island hop" to get to the objectives. There are enemies in little gunboats, enemies on the cliffs, enemies on the islands, etc.
We're sneaking up to a cliff perch of enemies and the sun is blinding in our eyes - just over the horizon.
A few minutes later, we were patroling our way to an objective near some stilt-houses and all of a sudden, Kodiak starts shooting at me (I know - not suprising really) and then I realize he's actually shooting at the enemy standing 2 feet from me who I didn't even see. Why didn't I see him? Well, while we were patroling, it got DARK! The sun set. Awesome atmosphere.
Steel - I couldn't find any way to limit the number of respawns. You can set the amount of time delay before you are permitted to respawn. You can disable the medics so that they can't respawn you. Here's the thing - if you have respawn limits, you just have to start over from the beginning when you use them all up. Why not just keep respawning until you are successful? Perhaps there's a way to limit that in the mission setup, but I don't see it in the server settings.
Also Steel - I tried what we talked about with the reticles - I set my gun reticle to not be there, so that when I'm running around, I have no cross-hair. I can shoot, but not accurately. The only drawback here? The handgun doesn't appear to have an iron-sight, so if you're desperate, and you use the pistol, you can't aim for crap. So, if everyone sets their crosshair to be not present, you have a pretty nice setup. It can't be enforced from the server, so you have to trust the players to set it.
