Small tech support request

Post by Hammer_other »

I got a new sound card today, with hopes of getting my old Suncom SFS stick, throttle and pedals running again. Well, I get the sound card set up fine, but I can't add a controller in the Gaming Options, even a generic controller. When I go into Device Manager, I find I have a Code 12 on the Game Port, I.E. the port can't find enough resources to run. I follow the troubleshooting, but can't manually override the resource usage. I disable those devices I don't need, but no result.

AMD Athlon XP2500+
512MB RAM
Abit NF7-S mobo

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have an Abit NF7-S V.20 also and i also get this message from the game port in my sound card!

I haven't found this aproblem though since idon't use any game ports on my system. Do you need to use the port on your sound card as well as he one on the Mobo? I guess you do which is why this is a problem otherwise id just tell you to use the mobo gameport only.

I think this probem can be fixed in the Bios by altering the IRQ settings (i think thats what it's called) for your onboard Game port to a different port then the sound card Gameport can use the original but i am only guessing here as i only tend to look for fixes for stuff that affects me and while i do have the same problem as stated earlier i don't use gameports so haven't looked for a fix, but i might just do it now since you brought it up just in case i need it in future.

The reason I got the sound card is because my mobo doesn't have any onboard game ports. But thanks for that tip about the IRQ settings, I'll try changing them this evening.

And that's why I only bought a £10 card; it was only for the game port.

OK, that did not work. I went into Device Manager, and it said that the game port was using the I/O resources 0210 - 0210. It also said they were not available. I found on the internet, it should read 0200 - 0207. Problem is, I can't manually change the resource allocation. I believe I have Administrator rights. How can I get round this problem?
