Played some more Strike Fighters tonight for another orientation flight to familiarize myself with the radar, weapons, landings, and such.

I conducted a single player A2G Strike mission in a F-4E Phantom II. I loaded up with MK82s, Sparrows, and AIM-9E Sidewinders. Enroute to target, a MIG-17 attacked us from a nearby airbase, and my escort flight cover jumped into action. I continued onto the strike target(COMM BUILDING) with my wingman. As I approached the target, AAA and SAMS were non-existant. I had a visual on the target, I set my MK-82s to Ripple x 3 bombs @ 100ms spacing. First pass, I had the wrong targeting Pipper(A2A) activated and missed the target by a few city blocks. I flew another 3 miles or so, and did a 180 back towards the target. The 2nd pass around I selected the A2G targeting pipper, dropped 3 salvos of bombs and decimated the COMM TOWER. I received a mission complete message and was told to RTB.

My escort flight was still in a knife fight, so I decided to go give some assistance. While enroute to the furball, I set my A2A radar to 25NM and pickd up 2 contacts. I wasn't sure which one was the MIG, so I switched to AIM-9Es and proceeded closer to the target I had locked. As I got closer, I heard a "FOX 2" radio call from the escort flight, and saw the escort plane who made the "FOX 2" call launch a missile at the target I had locked up. I then knew that I had the correct target locked up. I switched back to Sparrows and aquired radar lock, I fired my missile and watched it strike the MIG-17 on the left flank. The MIG-17 exploded into flames and crashed into the water below. I saw no chute, so the pilot must have succumbed to his injuries. (Is there even an EJECT featured in SF?)

I did a 360 to scan for other enemy fighters and locked up a MIG-19 about 2000 feet above me. I pointed my nose towards the MIG-19 and switched to AIM-9Es again. I had a good shot(Rear aspect), so I fired the missile. Just as I fired the missile at the MIG-19, a friendly aircraft flew behind and to the left of the MIG-19. Well, of course my Heat Seeking missile tailed off and slammed into the friendly aircraft. DOH! BOOM! Friendly down! The radio started blaring that there was a friendly fire incident. Sad, but very cool to see/hear. Closing quickly on the MIG-19 now, I immediately pointed the A2A targeting pipper at the MIG-19 again and fired my last AIM-9E. BOOM!! Scratch one more MIG. I was now winchester on AIM-9E missiles and bombs, to I RTBd. I landed successfully, mission successful.
